Description
With the creation of Village brewery De Meester we want to re-establish the tradition of artisan brewing in Kuurne. Our beers are brewed solely according to the traditional brewing processes, with the greatest care and only with natural raw materials. For our beers, we use hop flowers from Poperinge exclusively and refrain for using nor colour pigments, nor foam improvers, nor artificial seasonings. The result of this traditional work methods are the beers of Village brewery De Meester. Beers with character, interwoven with aromas from the different local hops.

Bottle from Drankenhandel Leiden. A Belgian Stout aged in German whiskey barrels, why not? Softly peaty with roasted malt, whiskey, some chocolate, alcohol. Moderate sweet and bitter, bit boozy finish. Above medium body. Good peaty whiskey influence.

Bottle from Drankenspeciaalzaak Jelle, Leeuwarden. Aroma is liquorice, candy sugar, dark malt, some chocolate, more liquorice in the finish. Sweet flavour with a mild bitterness. Alcohol is hidden fairly well. A very Belgian 'Stout', sugary, too much liquorice for my palate.

A 33 cl bottle from inventory that must be tasted before the deadline. Working with a Straffe Hendrik snifter, I make the pour, dark amber brown followed by a spare ring of light, very fine, tan bubbles. The scent is hard candy, ripe fruit, malt and grain. I take a drink. Dried fruits, malt brown sugar, a welcome booziness, baked wheat bread and caramel. Consistent with the brewery's other high quality beers, I like this one considerably.
