Description
With the creation of Village brewery De Meester we want to re-establish the tradition of artisan brewing in Kuurne. Our beers are brewed solely according to the traditional brewing processes, with the greatest care and only with natural raw materials. For our beers, we use hop flowers from Poperinge exclusively and refrain for using nor colour pigments, nor foam improvers, nor artificial seasonings. The result of this traditional work methods are the beers of Village brewery De Meester. Beers with character, interwoven with aromas from the different local hops.

Can @ Dr. Beer. Unclear pale yellow golden body under a lacing white head. Dominated by tropical and citric fruits. Zest, acidic grapefruit and decent bitterness. Nice and very refreshing.

Blend of two Belgian barleywines, one by De Meester which I feel is often overrated, and one by HopHemel in Limburg which may be, perhaps, underrated - apparently it was the one and only Bart Vanpoucke who brought them together in this collab, and indeed I recall him telling me about this at one occasion. Sample shared by Bart (not Vanpoucke but another one) at Proevertjesdag. Medium sized, yellowish pale beige, fairly stable head on an initially clear, deep coppery bronze robe, turning cloudy and more mahogany-brownish further on. Aroma of caramel, soggy brown bread, cinnamon rolls, vanillin (oak wood I guess), yellow raisins, brandy, plums soaked in calvados, ground hazelnuts. Sweet, quite 'candied' onset, yellow raisins, slight pear syrup and candied figs with a very thin sourish edge bringing balance to the sugariness, medium carb with vinous, smooth mouthfeel. Caramelly and brown-bready core, toffeeish and rounded, with a very light toasty-bitterish touch, sprinkled with a hint of cinnamon and vanilla - the latter of course connected to oak wood, providing a long, warm finish with a dash of (slightly too) herbal hops and warming, brandy-like alcohol. As a merging of two beers coming from almost opposite sides of Flanders, this blend does feel like one monolithic whole, packing the flavours one expects from a dark barleywine but with a strong Belgian twist - I guess it is fair to say that this beer is halfway between English barleywine and Belgian quadrupel. Cheers to the Barts: the Bart who offered me the sample (coming from Stacks apparently) and the Bart who conceived the idea (and is active as a lambic blender too nowadays).

Bottle picked up from Mr Hop Vernray Netherlands and consumed at home after a dirty homemade Chinese Curry, Thursday 20th November 2025 after listening to Huw Stephens on 6Music Round Table and the sad news that Mani from the Stone Roses has passed away today. Pours dirty dark brown with a large off white head, slight tart edge, is this oak aged? Very soft mouthfeel, tangy with some molasses, better than expected after initial taste, not amazing but fine.

Sampled at Billies day 1. Autumnal red brown color, average sized off-white to beige head. Aroma is malts, light oak, leaves. Flavor is similar. Quite like your regular bock. The ABV is very well hidden. Very dangerous beer, pff. Nice though. 8-7,5-7,5-8-7,5

Bottle from Stacks. Hazy dark brown-red, small, foamy, off-white head. Aroma of blue grapes, prune, ruby port, blackcurrant, cherry, vanilla, almond, wood. Taste has sweet-sour blackcurrant, cherry & grape, some bitter grape skin too with a phenolic note in an almondy malt body. Tart finish, some woody, grape skin- & cherry pit-like tannins and warming port-like alcohol. Medium body, thin oily texture, soft carbonation. Enjoyable vinous stuff.
