Description
One Tributary Leads to Another… that was the aha! moment when Tod Mott and his wife, Galen came upon the name of their new brewery. Tributary Brewing Company is Tod’s long-held dream of brewing his own beer and having his own place to serve it. Tod has been a master brewer for over two decades, working with some of the region’s most renowned breweries. Most fans know him as New England’s brewing legend, the creator of the original recipe of the highly acclaimed Harpoon IPA, and Portsmouth Brewery’s cult-status, Kate the Great Russian Imperial Stout.

We find the inspiration for Tributary beer in the landscape of Southern Maine, with its winding brooks, salt water marshes, and tidal rivers converging into the mighty Piscataqua River. Tod and Galen are passionate environmentalists and understand the critical importance of good, clean water.

Water is the most vital component in the brewing process; Tributary is our metaphor for the delicate brewing process. Tod’s skill, ingenuity, and creativity, combined with our mission to preserve this way of life, results in small batches of Tod’s favorite recipes for traditional, well-balanced, full-bodied beers — many of them! Tributary’s home is the coastal town of Kittery, Maine. We use only the finest malt and hops in our brews for beer lovers locally and beyond.

16 oz. can traded by tfontana. Canned in November?? This get lost somewhere? Aroma and soft dark fruit, molasses, earthy malt. Flavor is a softer rendition of the aroma. Molasses and dark fruit upfront with a dark bread character. Good.

Can pour from trade with Johnnnniee--thanks, John! Appearance is dark, dark brown (mahogany with light source directly behind) with decent sparkle, finger-width khaki head with poor retention and no lacing. Aroma is strong earthy roasted malts, nuts and mild chocolate. Taste follows aroma though not as strong/rich but with some dark fruit and brown sugar, as noted in earlier review. Mouthfeel is light-to-medium bodied with smooth, frothy texture, soft-to-average carbonation and crisp finish. Overall, appearance and aroma are great but taste and mouthfeel lag a bit.

Can from the source. Dark brown with beautiful garnet highlights and brilliant clarity, bubbly off white head dissipates quickly. Bready toasty maltiness with a firm earthy floral hop aroma and flavor to counter. Clean tasty well made beer!

Taster pour on tap at NH Brewfest. Appearance is lightly hazy, golden yellow with no sparkle, thin cap of off-white head, light leggy lacing. Aroma is Belgian yeast, tart, fruity esters, wheat, mild clove. Taste is strong flavor--almost boozy, not in a bad way but assertive--wheat, sweet fruit, tart fruit, hint of grains of paradise. Very nice. Mouthfeel is light-to-medium bodied with smooth, thin texture, soft carbonation and lively kick at the end and finish as taste. Overall, little bit more boozy than I'd like and not super sweet, but a nice, strong sipper that is well crafted. Quality.
