We find the inspiration for Tributary beer in the landscape of Southern Maine, with its winding brooks, salt water marshes, and tidal rivers converging into the mighty Piscataqua River. Tod and Galen are passionate environmentalists and understand the critical importance of good, clean water.
Water is the most vital component in the brewing process; Tributary is our metaphor for the delicate brewing process. Tod’s skill, ingenuity, and creativity, combined with our mission to preserve this way of life, results in small batches of Tod’s favorite recipes for traditional, well-balanced, full-bodied beers — many of them! Tributary’s home is the coastal town of Kittery, Maine. We use only the finest malt and hops in our brews for beer lovers locally and beyond.

Draft for the charity event. Hazy straw color in the 12 oz. glass. Aroma is wheat, saline solution and citrus. Jeff Goodno did a great job with the balance of this brew. The backbone is wheat with citrus and very mild coriander. The salt never overwhelms the palate and gives it a very subtle hint through-out the sip. It make you wanting to take another sip. Finely crafted. Get your ass to Kittery, ME before this is gone.

Draft at the source. Hazy straw color, decent head retention. Aroma starts with some light grain followed by weak fruit and a nice floral character.
Taste shows me some wheat, light pale malts, juicy fruit notes and a good dose of floral hops that give a nice from bitterness that lingers for a good second after the sip. I enjoyed the juicy hints mixed with the floral notes. I feel this was a stronger brew over the IPA I had directly after it.

Pint enjoyed at the brewery. Deep brown color with nice looking thick off white head that retained until the end of the glass. Aroma is roasted malts, mild citrus with a light pine hiding in the back ground.
Flavor has a solid roasted grain backbone with light citrus through the center. The finish has a substantial amount of pine that lingers after the sip. Hearty body with a creamy texture that make me crave another sip. A touch of sweetness to balance the bitterness, fine example of the style.

4 oz. sample from the source. Pitch black color with lasting head. Moderate roasted notes with some light chocolate and coffee tones.
Mouthfeel is creamy with mild lactose sweetness. Flavors of sweet malt, milk chocolate and mild coffee bitterness. The finish is chocolatey with a mild bitterness left behind. Overall a well-executed sweet stout that is not overly sweet.

4.75 oz. draft sample @ When Pigs Fly. Color is a hazy brown (ruby highlights), lasting head retention. Flavor of toasted grains, nuts and malt-focused. Light hints of chocolate. Some modest hops for balance but it’s really amount the malts that do have the English taste and feel, earthy and dirty. Lighter side of medium in body with a dry roasted nut finish. Easy to drain many pints if so desired.
