Can (4/26/21) pour from 1897 Market, CLT airport. It’s an opaque black with nice sparkle at the edges of the glass with 2-finger width light brown foamy head with good retention and nice rings of lacing. Aroma is a mix of sweet and bitter earthy roasted malts with a nutty, industrial quality. Taste follows aroma but more discernible coffee and chocolate notes along with the earthy roasted malts. Odd/unpleasant nut/industrial quality not present. Neither is coconut. Mouthfeel is light side of light to medium bodied with thin, creamy texture, soft carbonation and finish as taste. Overall, good strength but something is a little off in the aroma. A little thin.

3 week old pint can A: Very pale and turbid, barely even yellow, almost gray color. Tall fast falling white head and spotty lace. S: Sweet tropical scent features peach, sugar cookies and faint tart acidic citrus. T: Bitter pithy grapefruit over white peach, light white flour crackers and dry woody, not quite seltzery finish. M: Stiff carbonation, very light body and clean dry finish. O: Not great but certainly one of the better low cal IPAs I've had.

Big pounder can thanks to my daughter in NC. Clear slightly hazy yellow pale beer pour. The label is pretty interesting. Nose is simply modest ahy in beer. First taste is a little perfumy with some bitterness. However, I dont get what the OG is all about. Taste is a little uncivilized, but I think most kolsch I've had are slightly more bitter than expected. It has a half inch thick white head every time I refill the glass. Yes, each slug is just that; an uncivilized bitter kolsch, bordering on astringent, but never quite gets there. Needs a lesson or two from the real stuff from the old country. In the end I think I'm finally getting some hay in there, finally.......

Week old pint can A: Poured thick sludgy brown black with barely any head or retention. S: Fresh roast coffee and strong toasted bread. A little sweet cocoa. T: Again, strong fresh coffee leads, including a faint tart berry note with some bitter chocolate, roast grains and wood fading at the end. M: Subtle but active carbonation, medium full body, slick texture and drying finish. O: Good taste, great aroma and low sweetness make this a hit with me, though overall I'd prefer the Premium Roast, which it replaces.
