Description
Pretty Things Beer & Ale Project began on a shoestring budget in 2008. We exist to allow 20 year professional brewer Dann Paquette to make an honest living while giving his imagination free reign. We brew our beers in other people's breweries because we can't afford our own. We enjoy the up-at-dawn lifestyle and the freedom to brew beers of our own imagining. We brew all our beers ourselves: Dann brews and formulates, Martha mills in. We dream up our beers together, inspired by Europe, by history, and by BEER and all it can be. We are based in Somerville, but brew mostly in Westport, MA, hence the early mornings. Cheers!

New Beer Distributors, NYC 650ml ($8): Pours gold with a white head. Aroma is hoppy, yeasty, and fruity. Nice amount of hoppiness in this, which adds a lot of edge to the more traditional tripel style beneath it all. Spice and citrus are of course there. Quite good.

Bottle, thanks Eddan. Clear dark reddish/brown with a small head. Sweet with fruit, toffee, alcohol and malt. The body was medium and the finish was quite long. A descent one.

Bomber from Capitol Beer in Sacramento, CA. Pours a darkly ruddy brown with a large foamy tan head. Aroma is mildly nutty malty with a little "fuggles" for hop? Med body or so. Flavor is spicy, nutty dark malt with a fair amount of hop. Hop is spicy/earthy? So not fuggles? Interesting anyway.

Bottle shared by Joes @ weekly tasting. Hazy orange color, small off-whits head. Smell malts, sweetness, lightly grains, slightly herbal. Taste lightly malts, lightly grains, sweetish, slightly herbs, some fruitiness that reminds me of peach. A bit fizzy carbonation, medium body.

Pours a medium brown in the light that surprisingly is somewhat darker otherwise. Well, I was surprised. It looks pretty clear, though the color makes it a tad difficult to tell, at least in a wide glass with thick walls. The head is a light beige. Fairly rocky. Fades to a sheet of bubbles after a minute and sticks like that for quite awhile. Aroma is caramel malt and herbal/floral hops. I wonder how much my preconceptions of brown ale factor into my thoughts because I initially put down nutty as a descriptor, and going back, I’m not sure about it. The hop flavor seems primarily herbal with a minty, vegetal note, but I can also find berries and pepper. The caramel is light and pleasant. No big cloying character, just rich, full toasted sugar. Taste is drier than expected. Pleasant and easy to drink. Fairly clean. Refreshing caramel with light spicy bitterness. Light mouthfeel. Pretty average carbonation. The creamy body of a ~%5 abv with a lot of flavor. Not at all watery. Aftertaste of herbal hops and caramel. Interesting stuff. I absolutely love trying beers brewed to actual historic recipes, and I’m a big fan of Pattinson. Ratings and reviews aside, it’s utterly satisfying to get this sort of feeling for a piece of brewing history. Even though the contemporary beer was very likely not quite like this one, this is still much closer than we usually get to history, and that’s a tremendous gift for anyone interested in the subject.

Bottle: Pours nearly clear red-brown with a tall, frothy, tan head. Aroma is wet metal, bark, chocolate.... Taste is roast/nuts...but again a very metallic note. Slightly lactic... Ok, but rather weak...and difficult to get past the Boy Scout Canteen aroma.

22 oz. bottle, purchased at Carl’s Meat Market, Kittery, ME. Amber color with a gold hue. Massive head retention that left a coating of head down the snifter. Aroma is real nice, sweet candied raisins and dates, orange marmalade and some floral hop hints.
The sad thing is the aroma is the only thing this has going for it. I should have let this sit instead of drinking so young. I suggest if you have a bottle; cellar it a bit it MAY help it. It is overly sweet. Sticky caramel, toffee, light figs, thick organic honey with a blast of sugar toward the finish. Body is full and carbonation level gives a creaminess that is negated by the sticky sweetness. I got through about 16 oz. of it and could not drink anymore. I’m really surprised I didn’t go into a diabetic shock after drinking that much. Cellar it for a year and split with friends, over whelming like most Barley wines.
