Bottle at Bodega in La Crosse. This beer pours a slightly hazed orange color with a medium off-white head that diminishes steadily. Rings of lacing on the glass. Citrusy hops and malt aroma. Medium body with flavors of grapefruity hops, malt and caramel. The finish is hoppy with a lingering bitterness left over. Above average overall.

Draft at Old Fashioned. Filtered looking orange-tan color. Steady, soapy white head. Pleasant mild hop aroma. The bottle has an even more intense aroma. Very well done, this might be my new favorite beer from Ale Asylum. Captures most of the complexities of a true Belgian IPA, without the effervescent Belgian carbonation. Citra hops work quite well. The hops are bright and citrusy, not sticky or thick. An awesome beer, well done.

Bottle at Funky 6. Pours hazy gold with a slight, white head. Nice aroma with some banana, candy and yeast. Quite sweet with caramel, bread, yeast and more fruits. Medium in body with lively carbonation. Finishes sweet with mild spices and lingering bread and yeast. Very good.

Picked this up on a recent trip to Wisconsin prior to the Great Lakes Brew Fest. Poured from 12 oz bottle. Unfortunately, the aroma is like my shorts after a 15 mile run. Seriously, it smells like a high school football team’s locker room after a game. Some crazy skunky hops in there mixed with the Belgian yeast makes it smell rank, but not entirely in a horrible way, just uncomfortable. Appearance is a cloudy gold with a very present head. Taste is actually fantastic, extremely smooth and crisp, very easy to drink, great hop flavors but I’m not really noticing the yeast very much. Upon first whiff, I thought this would be memorably bad, but it’s actually memorably great. Probably the best conflicting beer I’ve had.

Bottle courtesy of CaptainCougar on 03/05/2010. Clear dark amber body with a medium creamy off-white head. Big floral and resiny hop aroma. Big floral and earthy flavor with a caramel background. Medium full body with moderately low carbonation.

One of a slew of Ale Asylum brews courtesy of sebletitje. Pours deep clear dirty gold with white head. The aroma is full with pine hop goodness and not anywhere near the label stated “lush floral” (did they even smell or taste this before creating the label?). Behind the firm level of pine are spicy hops is a note of pine resin infused crusty dried malt syrup. The taste is a pleasing pulse of pine and spicy hops and then slowly picking up thin layers of grapefruit and sweet maltiness. It has an even mix of flavor and bittering hops which creates a nice hoppy experience. Easily a solid IPA, a bit surprised it is listed as a Pale Ale.

Pour is a hazy orange with a small white head. Aroma is a very nice floral hop with big dose of sweet malt. Flavor is more hops with a fruit like mango hagning around in the backround. Finish is very dry with a decent hop left on the tounge after the swallow. This is a good beer to have around.

Pour is a dark brown with a large white head. Aroma is of a roasted malt and some hops. Flavor again starts out with a nice roasted malt but follows up with an agressive hoppy backbone. Like a few others have noticed on here. This is really a hopped up amber ale that push the boundries of the style.

One of a slew of Ale Asylum brews courtesy of sebletitje. Pours deep murky copper with tan head. The aroma is pine hops, some resin, a pinch of grapefruit and a mild level of malts and oats in the background. The taste is pretty smooth with malts mixing with pitch bitterness and pine hop flavor. It has a punchy hop bitterness washing over the malts as well a thin layer of black tea.

One of a slew of Ale Asylum brews courtesy of sebletitje. Pours mahogany with thin tan head. The aroma is roasty, sweet milk chocolate, sugary sweetness, some pine hops, chocolate brownie and a dollop of coconut. The taste is a touch bitter to start with dark chocolate, chocolate brownie, a dash of pine hops and dark roasted malts. Nice and rich in flavor for the style. Yum.
