From cask at the brewpub. Pours clear and golden deep amber with a small, off-white to light tan head. Aroma is solid hops fruity with a light roasted malt note. Bitter, light liqourice and roasted malt flavoured. Lingering roasted malt flavoured towards toffee and with a solid fruity bitterness into the finish.

Cask handpull at The Brew Wharf, Borough Market. Mahogany colour, thin dark beige head. Hops are a bit soapy. It’s not bad. Some decent malt, deepish malts. Yes, alright, hops are reasonably dominant

Cask handpull at Brew Wharf, Borough Market. Orangey chestnut with big thick head from a sparkler. Quite hoppy for a mild. In fact hoppier than some bitters. Earthy English hops. Not much of a mild. Thin in body, bit of fruit. Odd, but hoppy.

Cask conditioned handpull at Brew Wharf, Borough Market. Mahogany colour with good beige head. Smells fresh. Good red/dark fruits, like ripe strawberry jam. Really rather stunning. Good ESB. Just the feeling it gives you. This ticks a lot of the right boxes for me. Some fruit syrup maybe and lightish use of hop, but combats the fruits well, and a very dry finish.

Medium creamy offwhite lasting head. Dark, barely translucent amber body, sharply divided from the head. Light pine needle hops and roasty malts aroma with smoky notes. Soft, sweetish roasty floral pine needle hop taste. Soft mouthfeel. Lovely, dry clean pine needle, wood, and roasty smoky malts aftertaste, very clear and distinct. Very nice. (0.5pt draught at the brewpub.)

Hazy pale yellow coloured, small white head, perfume apple nose (or maybe it was a woman from next table). Quite watery with slight hoppy and sweet malty taste with notes of apples and peach. Rather bitter finish.
