Description
Craft beer in its purest form is what Sebastian Sauer, the head behind Freigeist beer culture, produces. Sebastian is known among experts as one of the first craft beer brewers in Germany. True or not, he's a veteran in the craft beer scene and an expert who is second to none. It's not for nothing that his beers are more popular than any other German beer in the USA, the home of craft beer.
Free spirit beer culture is conquering the craft beer world with the salvation of old, long-forgotten beer styles. Sebastian reads himself into the matter until he has found out all the ingredients of the original recipe and the subtleties and secrets of the old brewing style. With this knowledge, he then ponders how the beer would be brewed these days and what ingredients would be used. He doesn't want to bring old camels out of grandma's handbag to the light of day, but rather to transport the beers of the past with skill and expertise into the present. His beers are therefore not just reproductions of old recipes, but rather modern new editions. With this concept, the brewery has made a good name for itself in the craft beer scene and attracted international attention.

Bottle picked up from Drankgigant webshop Vlissingen Netherlands and consumed sat in Frank at Freising P & R, after some homemade Celeriac Soup and a Cheese and Branston Roll. Pours deep reddish brown, this is warming, quite thick mouthfeel, a little boozy, Loz thinks that it's smokey, however I don't. A little sticky, there is an underlying bitterness, I cannot necessarily pick up any one particular flavour, that said I do like this.

330ml bottle. Cloudy, orange golden colour with small to average, frothy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, white head. Yeasty spicy, spicy malty and slightly herbal-grassy, hoppy aroma, hints of mustard seed, whiffs of chamomile, a weak, yeasty fruity touch of banana. Taste is herbal-grassy hoppy, yeasty spicy and minimally bready and spicy, pale and wheaty malty, hints of mustard seed, a touch of chamomile, very light, yeasty fruity hints of banana. Watery texture, minimally dry palate, medium, prickly carbonation. Mild spiciness, light and refreshing - very nice.

Tap at Beergeek Bar, as Freigeist Dreimalzigkeit, 11.5%. Murky brown body, off-white head. Yup. Incense and dry caramel, bit nutty, such fascinating smokey notes! Smokey lean sweetish soft taste, bit nutty, soapy, touch of paint maaaybe, ending bitter, lightly warming. Nice!

Tap at Beergeek Bar. Hazy orange body, white head. Tart aroma, white wine, barrel touches, saliva, bit cheesy, lightly herbal, but somehow nice. Tart taste, very much so, sour. WHite grapes, barrel touches, light grainy notes, clean for Freigeist hahah, but though it's excessively sour, it's a decent beer!

Tap at BGB. Clear fuller golden body, almost no head. The aroma is full horseradish. No mistaking it. Tart taste, peanut and horseradish with nice red grape notes. Dunno what to think, the best of the last 3 but weird... How did they get the horseradish though...

Tap at BGB. Clear golden body, no head. Huge acetic aroma, red wine vinegar. More red wine vinegar in the taste too, some cheesy undertones. Smooth, and despite a weird combination, not bad, but let's face it, it tastes like a very cheap wine.

Tap at BGB. Misty dark rosé body, some off-white head. Pumpkin, spicy notes, some Freigeist phenolic notes. Cloves all over the place in the mildly tart, lean taste, some phenolic Freigeist house character as well. Smooth, okay at best though.
