Can. Deep gold with a fine, thin head.malty, caramel aroma, creamy, not so bad. Very sweet, malty, flavor, some corn, caramel, milk. Too sweet, for sure, but a bit of grassy hop bitterness in the finish. With ice: gets a huge, ultra fine, foamy head. Interesting. Aroma changes too, more metallic, flightly fruity. Body becomes thinner, the flavor less sweet. Not terrible at all, just don’t get the concept really.

Pretty much an average pilsner. Not better or worse than most other pilsners.

From the can, ice cold, waiting for a train. Had to try this light beer just once. Aroma just like every crap beer I remember from my youth, with a bit of citrus. Flavor of cardboard, something like cereals, and a hint of citrus. Fizzy, watery, nasty, though someone I could get through one can.

Received from EinWeizenbitte. Todd, thanks for the opportunity and the generosity! Pours a clear pale golden color with a two finger bubbly white head that quickly dissipates to a thin cap on top of the glass. Smells of sweet malt slightly fruity and earthy. Not a whole lot going on in the nose, reminds me of Michelob Ultra or O’douls. Taste is mild slight fruit and sweet malt with just enough hop bitterness to be slightly detectable. There is a weird phenolic taste that I can best describe as what you get with that last sip of diet fountain soda from Burger King. You know when the plastic from the straw leeches itself upon the underlying drink inside the cup. Then again maybe that only happens to me :) Crisp carbonation, thin body with a bone dry finish. Mouthfeel reminds me a bit of sparkling water. 5% alcohol is virtually undetectable. I don’t know if this a good Happoshu or bad. I felt it to be light and somewhat refreshing although not much flavor going on here. I am glad I got the opportunity to try this and if I’m ever in Japan I’ll try some more.

draught behind Daimaru in Kyoto. Malty, corn aroma, rich sweet malt and adjuncts, some hops, a bit of diacetyl. Light and refreshing, but not serious beer. As happoshu, though, it is not much worse than many regular Japanese macros.

(bottle, 33cl) Clear, pale golden colour with a blond and thick foamy head. Strawy and skunky malty aroma with notes of sour dough and a tinge of grassy hops. Slightly sweet and bitter flavour, light to medium bodied with a crisp carbonation. Plain strawy and doughy malty taste with grassy hops spots. Despite the aroma it is at least thirst quenching. 24.IV.11
