2 February 2019. At Brugs Bierfestival. Cheers to tderoeck, 77ships, Jerre, Kevin & Anke! Hazy red with a lasting, thin, foamy, pink head. Aroma of lemon peel, wheat, lactic acid, (expired) red yoghurt, red candy, sour cherry. Taste is heavy fruity sweet, pure red candy with a sugary effect, industrial yoghurt & strawberry jam, light fruity sourness with notes of cherry & wheat providing some balance. Bit tart, wheaty finish, lingering red fruit & candy. Medium body, slick/sticky texture, soft carbonation. The only asset here is that they refrained from turning this into another heavily sweet Fruit Beer that is also alcoholic (Cherry Chouffe, Delirium Red, the likes), extra point for that. So, far from aromatic & complex, but managing to maintain a minimum of tartness, and a decent amount of taste at only 3.9%.

15cl glass on Sunday 3rd Feb 2019; Brugge Bier Festival. Nice low alcohol (for Belgium) Blond. Golden pour, white crown. Uncomplicated and refreshing with an orange/citrus leaning in both the aroma and taste. Most likely be better on a warm sunny day rather than the cold and wet afternoon in a tent when I sampled it.

Cloudy orange beer, small creamy irregular head, bit adhesive. Aroma: metallic, lots of grains, rather unpleasant, hay. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: bit malty, some citrus, bitter touch, grains, hay, metallic, pretty unpleasant. Aftertaste: dry, malty, grains, don't like this one…

Little cloudy blond to orange beer, small creamy off-white head, stable, non adhesive. Aroma: very malty, lots of grains, hay, cow fodder, dusty. This is an IPA??? MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: slightly fruity, soft bitterness, hint of citrus if ever so slightly, yeast, hay. Aftertaste: little fruity, malst, herbal, chemical bitterness in the finish. Highly unpleasant, and not an IPA by far…

Flesje gedeeld met H. Zwart bier met mooie licht bruin schuimkraag. Aroma van koffie en pouliepek. Smaak is zoet, drop- en karamel-achtig. Nasmaak van salmiak.

Cette Quadruple de Mariënrode de la brasserie Halen m'a très agréablement surpris et ce grâce à une excellent équilibre et des arômes très agréable de whisky et de porto pour une bière qui à priori n'est absolument pas vieillie en fût. Le plus frustrant sur cette bière est avant tout le final qui baisse très vite d'intensité et ne permet pas de fixer les arômes au palais. Un peu plus de profondeur dans les arômes auraient également été plaisant. Mais j'ai pris beaucoup de plaisir à cette dégustation. Belle robe noire en verre avec une très fine mousse brune. Le nez est une très belle alliance entre porto, whisky, pruneau et malts grillés. L'attaque est sur un très bel équilibre entre malt, houblon et alcool. On y retrouve les arômes présents au nez mais avec une complexité accrue car on y retrouve des arômes fruités plus développés (notamment poire) et des épices (poivre principalement). La deuxième bouche gagne en ampleur et en douceur avec un alcool à 12 % se faisant peu sentir. L'arrière bouche, d'une bonne ampleur est tout de même marqué par un alcool légèrement plus chaleureux. La texture de l'ensemble reste très fine quant à elle. Et alors que l'ensemble est sur une bonne dynamique, le final très court casse l'envolée et nous fait retomber dans notre lyrisme…Frustrant tout de même...

Cette Mariënrode Tripel, manque à la fois de caractère et d'inspiration pour une bière en définitive relativement douce, linéaire et sans poésie. Bref, pas un grand soir. Côté visuel, c'est une triple blond orangé qui se présente à nous avec une mousse blanc cassée de 5 mm. Le nez est peu emballant : miel, orange, caramel avec un alcool se faisant très légèrement ressentir et un soupçon d'épices. L'attaque douce et toujours peu emballante reprend les mêmes bases. La seconde bouche ne montera que légèrement plus sur l'amertume. L’arrière bouche tranche quelque peu, davantage sur l'amertume (celle-ci restant modérée) et donc un peu plus fraîche mais également plus épicée. Le final d'une longueur acceptable, ne verra que l'alcool s'exprimer davantage, mais d'un soupçon. Celui-ci ci, pourtant à 9,1 %, a toutes les difficultés à exister. Ce n'est pas mauvais mais mon palais n'en redemandera pas une autre !

Opaque dark brown beer, decent tan head. Smooth palate, semi dry, decent fine minerally carbonation. Smooth dark malts, trace of tangy dark chocolate, very mild licorice. Tangy dark fruits. Smooth finish. Tidy but wants more to it.

Flesje gedronken bij B. en H. Diep donkerbruin bier met beige schuim. Aroma van van mout en karamel. In de smaak komt karamel en rietsuiker naar voren. Nasmaak is eerst licht hoppig en later iets kruidig en pittig.

Solsletta 180718. Black color with a tan head. Aroma is roasted malt, licicice, cocoa. Flavor is apple, licorice, coffee, roasted malt, cocoa, alcohol, dried fruits. Full body. Complex nice beer.

Bottle. Dark brown to black in the glass, with a dense, finger-thick light tan head. The aroma is mostly on the dark side, with dark chocolate, coffee, roasted malts, some meaty hints, alcohol notes, dark dried fruits, vanilla hints, some wood notes and some cigar notes. It's full-bodied, not as warming as the ABV suggests, with a smooth carbonation. Cocoa, roasted malts, dark chocolate, some coffee, alcohol notes and a touch of vanilla and wood in the flavor. It's sweet, but still with a dryish finish. Lots of dried fruits in the finish, along with a light sour hint. A very pleasant Quad, well brewed and complex, and not too sweet. 180718
