(Bottle, Monk’s Café, Stockholm, 10 Oct 2007) Black colour with frothy, brown head. Malty, slightly burnt nose with liquorice, chocolate and soy sauce. Slightly vinous and rather sweet. Malty, roasted taste with notes of chocolate, soy sauce and liquorice. Rather sweet, medium to full body. Powerful but smooth. Warming, tasty and very nice.

Bottle picked up Sri Lanka by Loz’s parents Mid gold in colour with tight white fizzy head. A flourish of bitter lager hops initially that quickly subsides to reveal a sweet, soft tasting lager, not bad but can become tiresome.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a dark golden color with almost no head. The aroma was typical sour, tangy lager. The flavor was tangy, sour, bitter and almost skunky. Drain pour.

Bottle. Clear, golden beer, with a medium sized white head. There’s not much of an aroma, some fruityness though. Not much of a body either, it’s very watery, with flavors of grain, fruits and some hoppy bitterness. I can’t see where’s characther from the commercial description is to be found. Blandness is not character in my book. Some fruityness and a little hoppy note in the finish can’t make up for it either. Not a beer to repeat. (070821)

625 ml. bottle from Bottleworks in Seattle. Pour is all black with a khaki head that has good retention. Aroma is roast coffee and some sweet licorice. Hint of metallic in the aroma as well. Taste is big roasted malt flavor, less of the licorice than expected and a really nice hop bitter finish. Really well balanced and super drinkable. Body is very smooth.

Off spoiled aroma in bottle but, in the glass it has a little sweetness added to the olfactory. Smell comes on with slight hints of strong ale. Ubiquitous pale yellow american lager appearance. Has the feel of pale lager with some above average whisky added. I frowned upon lion stout so I was not looking forward to trying this because the label looks just like lion stout. For 8%, you certainly can taste the alky but it is not very abrasive, not quite in the face. Has a recently manufactured plastic hose taste that comes and goes. I know this is in the pale lager style, but it is certainly a malt liquor. Cheap american malt liquor finish. You know, the same as a strong ale but cheaper. Better than Lion Foreign Stout.

Clear yellow with a head three fingers in height. Sweet malts, corn, and rice in the aroma. Flavor is similar. Finish is nearly non-existent. Watery. How can this be the same brewery that gives us Lion Stout?
