Description
In the hands of the Bosteels family for over 200 years, the brewery relies today on the craftmanship of seven generations. In 1791, Jean-Baptist Bosteels established the brewery, and has been followed by generations who took over the brewery with zeal and never stop brewing even during the world wars. At that time, the brewery played such an important role in the town, the family Bosteels was such influential people that we are not surprised that 3 on the 7 generations have been Town Mayors.
In the 1930’s Antoine Bosteels, 5th generation, carried on the brewing dynasty and played an important role expanding the sales of the Bosteels Pils into other regions such as Ghent, Antwerp and Brussels. His son Ivo Bosteels honored the iconic beer of Pauwel Kwak by bringing it back to the market in 1980; this is the beginning of the strong beers for the Brewery Bosteels. In the year 1990, Ivo’s son, Antoine Bosteels, the 7th generation, understood the potential of the strong beers and especially the trend for the blond ones. Driven by passion of the art of brewing and guided by his creativity, Antoine is at the roots of the Tripel Karmeliet and the DeuS Brut des Flandres.
It was announced in 2016 that the brewery would be taken over by beer giant AB InBev, however Antoine Bosteels will remain chairman of the Board of Directors and will also remain operationally involved to ensure business continuity. In addition, the brewing activities will remain based in Buggenhout.

Bottled sampler. Rater #400 for this beer. Had just a sampler at Binny’s, so this is kind of a placeholder until I get to a whole bottle: Slightly fruity impression, with a suggestion of berries. Orangey in color, subdued spiciness. Definitely on my list.

Bottle from Sainsburys. Golden colour with white lasting head. Complex nose of yeast, herb, lemon, orange, lavender. Slightly sweet in mouth with crystallised fruit but dry herby kicking hop finish. Lots of bangs for your buck here.

Bottle at GBBF Golden beer, gamey, almost pate aroma with some citrus and the meaty flavour carries on into the mouth. Not bad but a bit intense. Re rate thanks to Jackies friend. Bit more sour on aroma than I remember. Still not that good. Fizzy.

Bottle. Dark amber beer with a big off-white head. Yeasty aroma - spice (mostly corriander and pepper). Yeasty, sweet malt flavor with cany sugar and spice. Dry finish - almost champagne like.

(Bottle 25 cl) Pale amber coloured beer with a rather discreet head. Slightly sweetish in good balance with the hops. Some notes of caramel and...nothing much more really. Decent but far from thrilling. 280999

Drank at this great little pub in Zagreb called Tolkien’s from a Tripel Karmeliet tulip. Enormous and thick white head that dissipated at a medium pace. Orange/deep gold colour, and a bit misty. The aroma is stunning, orange, spices (won’t elaborate because I don’t know their exact english names), dust, yeast, got just a tad unpleasant later, but that didn’t detract much from the sheer greatness. The taste was spicy, complex, yeasty. Didn’t care for it as much as I thought I would, but I respect it. Hops ? Bitter aftertaste. Alcohol very well hidden. Very, very interesting.

(Bottle 33 cl) Amber-golden, hazy beer with a nice, frothy head. Very soft mouthfeel. Dominated by the malts (this is a 3-grain beer). Some spiciness and citrusy notes with only a faint, late bitterness. Rather complex and indeed very interesting. 250697
