Description
In 1981, Peter Mauldon, the great grandson of Anna Maria decided to re-establish the family tradition and start a brewery in Sudbury once again. Peter had been too young to be involved in the original family business and had previously pursued a career with Messrs. Watney where he progressed to Head Brewer at the company’s large Mortlake Brewery.

Cask at the Waggon & Horses, Stourbridge. Pours very dark brown with a medium head. Aroma is sweet roast and cherry. Taste has cherry, roast and coffee.

Cask - Pours a clear golden colour with a small thin frothy white head that quickly disappeared. Aroma is malty, bready and toasted malts with some hoppy notes. A moderately sweet malty taste, toasted malts and a moderate to light bitterness.

Wetherspoon Autumn Beer Festival 2019. Cask @ Waterhouse, Manchester. Extremely dark red with a creamy off-white head. Its cherry is subtle amongst light roasted malts and is slightly sweet. It’s a good fusion.

6/2/2021. Bottle shared at the second Ipswich Lockdown 3.0 virtual bottle share. England vs Brazil. From Coop, Heath Road. Pours clear amber brown with a small frothy off-white head. Aroma of toffee, malt, biscuit, bread, treacle, touch of spice and nut. Medium sweetness and bitterness. Medium body, oily texture, average carbonation. Earthy, treacly, bitter finish.

500ml bottle [courtesy of Grumbo - cheers Graham!]. Clear, faint, chestnut colour with ruby shimmer and average, frothy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, light off-white head. Slightly toasty, minimally nutty, malty aroma, weak, floral and minimalyl fruity, hoppy overtones. Taste is fruity and floral hoppy, slightly toasty and minimally nutty malty, hints of red berries, a touch of petals, lavender. Watery texture, smooth, soft and silky palate, fine and soft carbonation. Light, very refreshing, highly drinkable - very nice.

Bottle from Beers Of Europe. Appearance - amber to red. Slightly off white, fluffy head. Nose - nuts and light treacle. Taste - more treacle or burnt toffee. Nuts and nougat. Palate - creamy, light to medium bodied. Long finish which gets lightly astringent. Overall - decent.

Bottle at ash's. Pours clear amber, nose is caramel, toffee, taste is similar, bitter finish, some lemon and bubblegum.

500ml bottle from Beers of Europe; BB some time in 2022. Drank at home on Christmas Day 2020. Clear body, red hue to it, beige head. Malty, fruity and spicy but mostly malty.
