Description
One of the older brewpubs still in existence, it is said to have opened in 1835, although the pub building dates from the 1860s. Came into the Pardoe family in the 1920’s when Ma Pardoe became the Landlady / Brewer. Following her death, it was owned by a number of parties, including Tom Hoskins and Wiltshire, with brewing ceasing in 1993. Following a major refurbishment, the brewery reopened in 2001. Although much of the brewing equipment has been renewed, the 7BBL plant is still in the original layout.

Cask at Ma Pardoe's, Netherton. Clear copper gold. Thick foamy white head. Aroma is low key - sweet fruity/floral with a hint of sourness. Flavourwise it's initially sweet before a more hoppy bitterness appears.but the sweetness then reasserts itself. Light. Slick. Soft-flat carbonation. Long dry somewhat astringent finish.

Cask at Olde Swan, Netherton (brewery tap). Pours a chrome yellow with a small white head and good lacing. There’s old school hops and lemon in the aroma. In the mouth it has an overall sweetness, but with underlying bitterness. In terms of flavour the hops are to the fore with traces of citrus and lucozade. Finish is slightly bitter. Not bad at all. PS CAMRA says this is a light mild – but I think our categorisation is better.
