Cask at Standing Order, Derby. Pours a golden amber with minimal off-white head. The aroma has corn and grains, whilst in the mouth traditional hops are to the fore. It is fruity and fairly sweet with oranges, some generic citrus and traces of spice. All leading to a hoppy finish. This is decent.

Drunk within sight of the castle itself. Nothing too spectacular, just a standard old school bitter: amber pour with a frothy / creamy white head, sweet and malty, light with the tiniest hint of bitterness in the finish.

Cask at Friar Penketh, Warrington. Pours a hazy golden amber with a small foamy off-white head and good lacing. Aroma has a melange of malts, nuts and autumn fruits. In the mouth it is sweet with a slightly watery texture. Malts lead the flavour over a caramel base. Later on there are some floral hops and summer fruits, leading to a slightly bitter finish. This is OK, but nothing special [ “premium strength @ 4.5% - who are they kidding ?! ]
