Description
Along the road to Nismes, a stone's throw from Mariembourg, a peculiar building with a copy of a windmill is visible. It was the showcase of a disco that was turned into a brewery by Frédéric Adant in 1998.
At the Brasserie des Fagnes, we brew around 50 different beers per year. Our brews and beers offered for tasting may change according to the seasons. More fruity in spring, light and refreshing in summer, rather amber in autumn with more body and taste, finally more alcoholic in winter with a tendency towards strong browns ... Yes, there is something for everyone's taste at the Brasserie des Fagnes! Some of its beers are only available at the Brasserie des Fagnes. After brewing, fermentation and aging in the tank, they are transferred to storage tanks which are directly connected to the flow pumps in the tasting room.

New tripel in this established series of Walloon ales. Steinie bottle from the Carrefour supermarket in Sint-Denijs-Westrem near Ghent. Very thick, egg-white, foamy, cobweb-lacing head over a lightly hazy, orangey peach blonde beer with fierce sparkling, turning misty and deeper orangey – almost amber – with sediment. Aroma of very pronounced banana ester (banana-flavoured bubblegum), ‘Fruitella’ candy even or banana milkshake, freshly ironed cloth, honey, coriander seed, straw, apple juice, ‘jenever’. Sweet onset with the expected overdose of banana-bubblegum isoamylacetate, notes or ripe pear and pineapple slices, tons of residual, honeyish white candi syrup sweetness poured over a slick, rounded, cereally malt middle with a thin metallic edge somewhere; mild floral hop bitterishness in the finish, lingering a bit and blending with a ‘dusty’, soapy coriander seed spiciness, both drenched in a warming afterglow of ‘jenever’-like alcohol. Very sweet, ‘hypercommercial’ Belgian cliché tripel for the masses, but technically correct so no further complaints here.

Bottle from Terre de Boissons Calais and drunk on a picnic blanket. Clear amber colour lasting white head. Sweet and oddly artificial aroma. No off flavours but just clearly artificial and just not something I would want again. Some dryness on the finish. Just a bit poor to be honest

At Cambrinus, Bruges. Shared with Anke. Pours clear golden with a big, lasting, foamy, white head; fizzing. The aroma contains yeast, wheat, banana, clove, white bread, green apple, some spices. It tastes medium spicy bitter and light malty/fruity sweet, hints of pepper; dry, spicy, hoppy finish, bit of warming alcohol. Medium body, creamy texture, lively carbonation. A tad overly spiced but enjoyable nonetheless.

Bottle from Terre de Boissons Calais and drunk at home. Dark ruby brown colour lasting beige head. Some dark brown malts, some fruit. some rich dark cherry flavour. Some bitterness on the finish. Yes I drank it fairly quickly which is a good signal. Some sweetness in mouth with some dryness on the finish. Fine. Light fruit cake.
