Description
Along the road to Nismes, a stone's throw from Mariembourg, a peculiar building with a copy of a windmill is visible. It was the showcase of a disco that was turned into a brewery by Frédéric Adant in 1998.

At the Brasserie des Fagnes, we brew around 50 different beers per year. Our brews and beers offered for tasting may change according to the seasons. More fruity in spring, light and refreshing in summer, rather amber in autumn with more body and taste, finally more alcoholic in winter with a tendency towards strong browns ... Yes, there is something for everyone's taste at the Brasserie des Fagnes! Some of its beers are only available at the Brasserie des Fagnes. After brewing, fermentation and aging in the tank, they are transferred to storage tanks which are directly connected to the flow pumps in the tasting room.

Hazy red, foamy cherry reddish head. Strong aroma of metal and chewgum, hints of cherry and syrup. Medium-bodied. Crisp fizzy carbonation. Metallic, artificial fruity, dry, chewing gum also in the flavor, "real" cherries are nowhere to found. A big dissapointment.

Draught red, slight (cold) haze; light-pink head, very tenacious. Horrible nose of cherry fruitgum, absolutely nothing else, concentrated fruit syrup. Less awful taste than nose, but still sweet and artificial all the same. Sticky, syrupy, cloying. When served, I got a pep-talk from the brewery representant, telling how unique this beer is. It made the concoction even more revolting.

(Bottle 25 cl) I thought Des Fagnes filtered their beers, but this golden beer is slightly hazy with yeast even on top of the head. Fruity with a pronounced sweetness, almost overly sweet. Go for their Brune instead. 190702

(Bottle 25 cl) Dark, reddish brown with a tall, pretty head. Appears filtered whic is rather unusual. Very aromatic and spicy. Mainly dry with a weak underlying malty sweetness. Slightly perfumy - coriander? - with a discreet, bitter finish. Very harmonious beer. 090702

Hazy yellow with medium white head with big bubbles. Aroma has dominantly cardboard then some grassy and coriander notes. Salty bitter flavor in the start, palate has overflowing coriander and hoppy flavors. Juicy but hard and salty finish. Outlook and aroma don’t promise much but this is really enjoyable blonde.

Dark brown; slim brown head, some lace. Nose as of soaked-up rainwater, roasted malt, tinge of chocolate. Some brown sugar, and probably a bit diacetyl, as I'm getting something buttery. Sweet taste, bit nutty. Nothing else. Medium-bodied, fizzy. Malts fill in the mouthfeel, sugar thins it, taste is empty. Boring as hell. Bottled - so the beer is more than probably from Du Bocq. It fits.

(This is more than probably brewed at Du Bocq) Hazy amber, ochre shine; thick, bubbly whitish head, very persistent. Dry, candi-sugar nose. Herbal & spicey - maybe sage. Sweet, spicey taste with spicey-bitterish overtones. Some root-spice. Bitterness more obvious in the finish. Warming up, the character swings to coriander. There is a very spritzy-mineral water feeling, at the same time a creamy texture - weird combination. Alcohol obvious. Difficult. I cannot proclaim being enamoured by the taste, but the balance of this beer is more than impressive. That counts too.

La Spécial de Noël has lived. Alas, I’d say. Apart from 1%ABV, the beer has lost much and then some. Nearly black beer, slim white head, gone in seconds. Nose: God! - urine! Luckily something malty-vinous as well. Sweet taste, soupy and... I don’t dar to write it... This is horrible. At the same time something tart. How unbalanced a beer can become? Estery. Medium-bodied, some alcohol. I’m sorry, but something which REAllY smells of p**... WAS: 4/4/4/3/7 - 2.2 overall Rerate under the name Super des Fagnes Noël, 1yr old. Clear chestnut, small yellowish head. Parsley, dark malts speculoos , higher alcohols. Oxydized malts, hazelnuts, müesli, ending like chocolate sauce, very sweet, again higher alcohols retronasal. Very slick, pappery, full bodied. It’s decent, which is already a boon for this brewery. Still, it’s over-sweet.

Very disappointing. Aroma is hoppy, bit sour yeast. Taste is yeasty and dry hopbitterness, cardboard, and indeed something like licorice! Slightly alcoholic and metallic palate.

Bottled. Cloudy pale amber., rich head. Almond aroma. Sweet and grassy with notes of caramel. Clean mouthfeel, perhaps too clean. Bitterish finish with some toffee.
