Description
Along the road to Nismes, a stone's throw from Mariembourg, a peculiar building with a copy of a windmill is visible. It was the showcase of a disco that was turned into a brewery by Frédéric Adant in 1998.
At the Brasserie des Fagnes, we brew around 50 different beers per year. Our brews and beers offered for tasting may change according to the seasons. More fruity in spring, light and refreshing in summer, rather amber in autumn with more body and taste, finally more alcoholic in winter with a tendency towards strong browns ... Yes, there is something for everyone's taste at the Brasserie des Fagnes! Some of its beers are only available at the Brasserie des Fagnes. After brewing, fermentation and aging in the tank, they are transferred to storage tanks which are directly connected to the flow pumps in the tasting room.

Huge, yellowish head over yellow-golden beer with foxy highlights. Herbal, grassy and slight caramel notes. All pretty classical and nothing repulsive. Bit of mustard powder. Marzipan flavour, slight caramel, quite malty with coloured malts. My wife complains of a metallic taste, but I cannot trace that. Retronasal very perfumed, as something floating in the "Body Shop" or a new age store. Slightly sticky MF, bit fizzy. Medium bodied at best. "They dared to!" were my first thoughts upon spotting this bottle. IMO, the worst brewery in this country, attacking the most traditional style. Having tasted it, it is not so bad. Which is why it is possibly brewed at Du Bocq?

Draught Red-amber, hazy; small white head. Again a bit of almonds, perfumed, and very estery. Sweet, an almondy, trrible, higher fusels. Sticky, oily, only to be relieved by more nauseating almondy-marzipan-frangipane. IMO, this must be amongst the worst breweries in existence.

Draught Pale amber with very little off-white head. Almondy nose to the point of nauseating, like a fresh almond cake dressing. Tastes like a decoction of very cheap almond brandy. Traces of iron in the aftertaste., while retronasal, there’s an onslaught of caramel (with almonds). This is a caricature of a beer.

(Bottle 75 cl) Slightly hazy mahogany with a creamy, beige head. Distinct aroma of licorice. Lightly sweet, roasted malt and spices - but everything is completely overpowered by the licorice. Vague tartness. Quite a lovely winter beer. 261205

Draught at Kerstbierfestival 2005, Essen, Belgium
Light, clear body. Cask wood aroma. Lightly sweet flavour, very watery. Lightly to medium bodied. It appears as they somehow get hold of a good recipe for their regular beers, but can’t manage to create new good beers theirselves.

Bottled Murky brown body. Brown, fizzy head. Coffee aroma. Lightly sweet, lightly bitter initial flavour. Lightly sweet finish. They have a good recipe for their regular beers, but aparentky they lack the knwoledge of making new beers as good as their regulars.

Bottled. Pinkish red colour, with huge bubbly head. Soapy, artificial fruity/berryish aroma and flavour. Liquid chewing gum might also be true. Pure crap, and horrible in most ways. Watery.

Bottled. Hazy golden colour with mediumsized longlasting white bubbly head. Sweet fruity flavour with weak alcoholic sting. Spices, fruit and wheat in flavour. Not that special. Long acidic sweet aftertaste with alcohol showing a bit.
