Not at all like the hams from the old days. The aromas are sweet metallic. Flavors are similar to nose with a very slight malt finish and aided by the carbonation. So many labels from way back when are now just more or less the same beer which is an adjunct world pale lager at a cheap price. Ruined.

330ml bottle into glass. From BWS, Glen Innes. After NRL Grand Final and pizza! Pours a crystal clear amber with a large sticky foamy white head. Nose is nothing but orange rind. High fine carbonation. Tastes OK, Not a bad quencher, only 3.5%. Taste and finish are light caramel and orange. A \"US\" beer made in Australia for the mid-strength market but actually better than nearly all of its competitors. Great lawnmower beer.

24 oz. can from Orem, Utah State liquor store. Pours a crystal clear gold color with a large white head and very good retention. Decent lacing. Smells like pale lager and booze. Tastes like every other high gravity malt liquor - boozy and a bit harsh. Some sweetness. It may be a little smoother than other Steel Reserve beers, but that's not saying much. Liquid headache.

This summer I have been on a bit of a malt liquor kick. Steel Reserve Blk Berry has not been available near home but I did find it at a convenience store in Vegas a few weeks ago. Normally I brown bag these brews but I have to see the color of the contents from this 24 oz can. Whoa, maybe I shoulda stayed with bag. It pours a grape jelly purple, not a natural color for most brews or in the natural world. I do smell the blackberry, most obvious. Finally a drink, jeez, it is very sweet right off, berry of some sort, romilar and a hint metallic. Falls into middle of the range for SR products for me. Hell yes I would drink again.

Purchased in a 24 oz can from a grocery store in Twin Falls, Idaho. At $2.19, I thought - “Man, it has been 25+ years....it’s worth the money to try this and rate it!” Pours pristinely clear light gold with a moderate white head that retains. Anyone that doesn’t rate this a 4+ on appearance is bringing bias into this. Cereal grain and corn aroma - but not overt - so only subtly bad. Flavor is grain and grassy. The “meadow” aspects really show in the back half of the palate. Corn pervades the finish. Not as bad as expected - although I probably enjoyed it more when I had it in Milwaukee as a hot new release at the brewery circa Jan 1993 or 1994 before a Shaq game against the Bucks in -30 degree Wind Chill.
