Bottled. Vintage 2003 sampled in 2012 side by side with a vintage 1998. A murky brown beer with no head - the 1998 is a clear dark amber. The aroma is sweet with notes of caramel, malt, and alcohol. The flavor is sweet with notes of caramel, wood, nuts, and malt, leading to a dry alcoholic finish. The alcohol burns slightly on the tongue. I like the older version better.

0.25l bottle @ Henrik, Bergen. Have been looking at this one for almost a year now, so it's really about time to try it. This is a near-clear dark raisin-red barley wine with a small and bubbly - almost non existing transparent and side fleeing "head". Lovely sweet and barley wine-aromatic nose with notes of the following: wood, it's almost beefy and it has lots of lovely sweet, red and sticky viniuos fruit. It's a bit sticky in the mouthfeel and there is a very low carbonation level in this one. The flavors are what you can expect from a barley wine: it's sweet and heavy malty. You've got a woody and mouthdrying element that works quite well on this kind of brews. Ends more mouthdrying with red fruits and some alcohol. Still a bit raw and I would call this a bit "rough around the edges", but I quite enjoyed this little experience. Well worth waiting for :)

Cask @ JDW Inverness 271211 [6/3/8/4/15 3.6]
Dark amber, clear, thin white head.
Aroma of caramel malts, some fruitiness, not much hops on the nose.
Taste - Caramel malts, bit of roasted malt, fruity, bit of toffee, rich, very subtle spices, good flavour, well balanced.
Palate - soft carb, medium body, smooth, some sweetness, not much bitterness, bit sticky texture. Finish - smooth, continuation of main flavour, cleans well off the palate.
A good tasting premium bitter, spices acting only as a subtle adjunct. I like this one.
