The Irish can never get a stout wrong! Solid, even in a can

(On tap) Clear amber brown with decent white head. Indistinct aroma - hops, toffee, earthy notes. Medium body with fine smooth carbonation. Taste is a pleasant mix of toffee and hoppy tang with some nice bitterness at the end. Unexceptional but very drinkable.

30/6/2019. Bottle at the rooftop bar of at Acropolis Select Hotel, Athens. Pours red amber with a small white head. Aroma of malt, toffee, molasses, biscuit, fruit and rye bread with gentle spicy notes. Medium plus sweetness and moderate bitterness. Medium body, sticky texture, average carbonation, gassy sweet finish. Bit better than expected.

Half pint draft at Ely’s Bar & Brasserie in Dublin, Ireland. The pour is clear copper with a small white head. The aroma is dusty floral hop and caramel sweet malt. The taste is the dry floral hop and the muddled caramel malt, not terribly clean. The palate is light bodied, active carbonation and the muddled malt finish.

Can pour into tulip glass from Total Wine & More, Burlington. Appearance is clear, almost opaque black--very dark brown/ruby with light source directly behind--initial 5-finger(!) width beautiful cascading nitro head settling to 2-finger creamy white/light brown pillow with persistent retention but no lacing. Aroma is lightly bitter roasted malts and earthy minerals, with notes of dark chocolate and coffee. Taste is bittersweet lightly roasted malt with earth, crescent-roll biscuit and notes of chocolate and coffee like aroma. Palate is medium bodied with smooth texture, soft carbonation and finish as taste. Overall, gorgeous pour and competent attributes of a dry, Irish stout. Maybe not the biggest wow factor for a style, but done well.

Sweeter than Guinness, oddly, can taste the Heineken $$$? Soury?
2025-04-26, better experience, bumping up from a 2.5 to 3.5, bit sweeter indeed, doggo photo!
