Description
Alvinne is a 1200hl microbrewery in Flanders, Belgium. It has become an official brewery in 2004 and is located in the village of Moen, at the edge of the Mortagne touristic area and in the area where the historic breweries of the old Flemish Brown beerstyle are situated.
Their own yeast strain is called ‘Morpheus’ and was the reason to start experimenting with mixed fermentation, resulting in sour ales. Alvinne’s main mission is now to create innovative sour beers through a new style of Flemish blond sours by using the mixed fermentation method. You could call it the missing link between Oud Bruin and Lambic. Because of this, Alvinne has gained international attention and respect.
We already experimented with over 30 different kinds of fruits, herbs, plants, berries, flowers and vegetables. Next to the sour range, Alvinne has an interesting beer list that were aged on carefully selected used barrels, such as Cognac, Porto, Sherry, Calvados, Brandy, Red Wine and White Wine. Since 2018, we have started our own Membership “Alvinne’s Fellowship Of Exceptional Ales” to give our core fans the priority to get hands on our very exclusive and limited beers.

Tap @ Nøgne Ø. Unclear reddish orange body with a moderate sized, lacing off-white head. Strong, fruity, vinous aroma, malt, caramel, wood, red berries, lingonberries and some vinegar. Flavor is tart, fruity, some caramel malt, ripe fruit, acidic red berries, lingonberries, slightly funky, some wood and vinegar. I don’t get the smoke part and the Sahti description at RB got to be a joke. Anyway this is a very fine, complex, tasty, kind of refreshing beer. Fine balance in body as well and long lasting aftertaste in the same direction. Reminds me a bit about a softer version of Rodenbach Grand Cru with the sharp sourness, smooth malt, fruitiness and wood flavor. Less acidic but still pretty distinct. Highly enjoyable.

Bottle @ Bøker & Børst. Unclear reddish orange body with a thin off-white head. Aroma has dark fruit, acidic berries, rhubarb and a hint of acetone. Flavor is really acidic, sour fruit, lemon, rhubarb, hint of acetone and some sweet malt that actually save this for being too much vinegar for my taste. Medium body and tart, sour aftertaste. Sure refreshing and quite nice for a few sips, but too sour at the end of my glass.

Well stored bottle. Clear golden body with a thin, short lasting white head. Aroma is medium acidic with hint of fruit and honey. Flavor is sour berries, sour fruit, light malt and lemon. Medium body and sour aftertaste as well. OK but kinda straight forward sour beer without so much complexity.

Bottle at home from the Delft brewpub. Pours pinkish with white head. Nose is acetic acid, berries, funk and leather. The taste is quite sour, acetic acid also shows, big time in fact, but behind it there’s a nice funky berry lemonade for sure. Once the fruityness is gone the palate empties out tho, it’s a touch watery even. Not bad, but not outstanding either.

75cl bottle @ Belgian Beer Geeks Winter Gathering. Oof. Sweet. Very strong honey presence, slick palate, some boozy high strength desert wine shades, no Alvinne beer noticeable sadly. Barrel-aging seems lost in the boosty alcohol, though a long hour nursing this bottle may reveal more.
