Keg at the Hanging Bat. Better. Surprisingly better. +2. Bottle shared at home - cheers Steven! Pours jet black with a good beige-brown head. Nose has a touch of smoke, otherwise bit stout roast flavours. Tastes just superb, and a finish that goes on and on and on and on. And on.

Craft Clerkenwell. Keg. Bright clear amber beer, tidy pale cream coloured head. Sweet and slightly skewed malt, toffee, dried fruits and candy fruits. Malt cream. The individual components are okay but overall it doesn’t hang together. A bit of a sweet mess. I thought Tempest were beyond this point now. Disappointing!

Keg at the Lyric, Soho. It pours hazy orange-amber with a small white head. The nose is smoke, earth, wood, spice and smoked cheese. The taste is smooth, smoke, nice bitterness, peppery, smoked cheese, touch of sweetness and wood with a dry finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. A well-balanced and rather drinkable smoked beer.

Keg at Hanging Bat. It pours golden with a medium white head. The nose is touch of farmyard, potpourri, pine-fresh toilet cleaner, hay and pithy citrus. The taste is zesty citrus, orange rind, soap, strong pine and floral notes, with a bitter, citric finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Not bad, but difficult to get past the pine-fresh toilet cleaner aspect.

Keg at Hanging Bat. It pours pale yellow with a small white head. The nose is mild citrus, white grape, biscuit and floral. The taste is zesty citrus, light sherbet, straw, biscuit and floral notes with a dry, bitter finish. Light-medium body and fine carbonation. Smooth and drinkable, if a little unexciting.

Aroma: Lychee, wood and caramel.

Appearance: Hazy copper body with a thin white head that quickly fades. Light carbonation. Nice lacing.

Taste: Sweet caramel, toffee popcorn and a hint of cherry flavoured bubblegum. Lychee and ginger notes are noticeable as the beer warms. Soft rye spice on the finish.

Palate: Medium body with an oily mouthfeel. Light carbonation fizz on the tongue.

Overall: A sweet, interesting IPA. If the bitterness was heightened a little more, I’d have absolutely loved it.
