Description
Pucker Up & Join the Sour Revolution

Cascade Brewing has been a pioneer in the sour beer renaissance since 2006 and is the proud innovator of the Northwest Sour Ale. We are, by nature, the definition of artisanal brewing: we’re not bound by stylistic guidelines, just our own imagination and the ingredients we can access. Our distinctive sour beer blends feature fruit forward, barrel-aged ales that offer a complex array of flavors derived from Northwest grown ingredients, with each release capturing the unique subtleties of that year’s growing season. Our beers are brewed at our original brewery in Southwest Portland, then blended and aged at our nearby Blending House, which holds more than 1,300 oaks barrels and nine foudre tanks.

More of a black than an IPA. Dark brown with thick white head. Mild aroma hop very present. More of a roast malty flavour, with a hop finish. I really question whether this could be considered an IPA.

Bottle shared by Marcus. Pours hazy woody amber with 3-fingers of fluffy off-white head. Strong vinous aroma. Aspects of sour. Medium body and frothy carbonation. Flavor is grapey, whiteish grapey, sour. Very nice, subtle sour. Goes very well with Mt Tam cheese. Finishes deliciously and smoothly sour. It’s very nice stuff.

2009 GABF Taster and out of the bottle later in the week. Pours out a maroon/orange topped with a sand head. Aroma out of this world tons of stuff going on. Pit fruit, bitter grapes, sweet cherries and oak. Taste just as crazy. Lots of cherries, sweet candy, oak, and plenty of tart to balance everything out. The guys at Cascade have done it again.

Bottle at Phil Lowry’s house. Cheers Phil. It definitely had some white wine grape character. It had decent sourness as well. Maybe a bit boozy, but the white wine grape character was very good and it did have some decent sourness to it as well. A beer that definitely stood out during a beer drinking day.

WTWBA, 2009. Red. Moderate carbonation. Sweet balsamic vinegar with real sour cherry flavor. Far from the most sour beer I have had, but good sourness flavor. Good complexity.

Bottled. An unclear red-brown beer with a thin tan head. The aroma has notes of berries, wine, wood, and brettanomyces. The flavor is sour with notes of sour berries, malt, caramel, wood, and brettanomyces, leading to a lightly sour finish. Thanks Papsoe for sharing.
