Description
Pucker Up & Join the Sour Revolution

Cascade Brewing has been a pioneer in the sour beer renaissance since 2006 and is the proud innovator of the Northwest Sour Ale. We are, by nature, the definition of artisanal brewing: we’re not bound by stylistic guidelines, just our own imagination and the ingredients we can access. Our distinctive sour beer blends feature fruit forward, barrel-aged ales that offer a complex array of flavors derived from Northwest grown ingredients, with each release capturing the unique subtleties of that year’s growing season. Our beers are brewed at our original brewery in Southwest Portland, then blended and aged at our nearby Blending House, which holds more than 1,300 oaks barrels and nine foudre tanks.

Courtesy of HOPSHUNTER. It pours mahogany with rose hues and tan head. The aroma is inviting with sweet and spiced apples, yeasty spices, berry notes and growing tartness on a deep pull. The taste has pleasing notes of spices and red apple then picking up pear notes as well as sweet berry and growing tartness. It gets Brett like from time to time and it ends refreshing.

Courtesy of jdubFL. Pours deep murky ruby red with thin white head. The aroma is dark fruity to tart to sour and then toward rotting citrus on hot and wet concrete pavement. The taste begins smooth and cherry like and then rolling into tartness and drying out into the finish.

Huge unpleasant sour nose and profile. Somewhat salty. This is supposed to be a sour ale, not vinegar

Another special bier from Cascade. A bit confusing. Spicy and malty aroma. Dark orange pour with thick white head. Much lacing. Spicy anise flavour, with sweetness. Finish rather like a bitter. Not a bad beer at all, but a bit more focus would be welcome.

Sampled at tasting at stevo’s. Murky light brown pour. Light fruity aroma. Light sourness with just enough sweetness to balance. A bit thin, I was expecting more from this, but not bad.
