Description

New review:Again, not one of my best early ratings, so I felt like a rerate is in order. 0.33l bottle. Poured a darker golden colour with a medium sized fluffly white head that went away at a medium pace. Lively carbonation. A pleasant aroma, nicely fruity (some random agrume) and spicy. A sweet taste, underlying grainy breadiness. The nice silky fruitiness (apple maybe, something else...) mixed with some spices present in the nose can also be found here. Spice ends up in dust from time to time, not in the best way possible and some metal also pops up. Sweetish finish, weak hop in the aftertaste. Obviously not the best Belgian ale around, but I’ve had much worse micros in the same style. Good for the price and I’m not knocking the rate down as much as I thought I might. Ends up somewhere between 3.4 and 3.5. Heh... they seem to have started claiming that it’s brewed by a "Br. Abbaye de Leffe" in Dinant and no, there is no brewery there. Ah, well..Old review:This is a fine ale. Has a nice amber colour, and a fine head. I think my mother maybe got it right when she first tried it and exclaimed. "This is great! Oh, wait, too sweet." . It was quite sweet, but not too much, and the spicey taste was enjoyable. I’m pretty sure that there are better Belgian ales around though. (7/4/7/4/15)

(330 ml bottle, bought in Denmark. ABV was 8.5%.) Hazy golden colour, large lasting head. Strong sweetish yeasty and fruity aroma. Flavour is sweet but not cloying, yeasty and spicy (cloves), reasonably malty with a decent hoppy bitterness which leaves a pleasant aftertaste. Not a bad triple, but like others of this style the yeast is a bit too dominant to be "perfect" in my book. I won’t mind having another one, though. You’re buying? Thank you very much, mate!

33 cl bottle, bought in Denmark. ABV was 8.2%. Large thick head, clear reddish brown colour. Surprisingly weak aroma, but what there is, is pleasant: Ripe and dried fruits, just a faint hint of barnyard. Flavour has malts and spices and a great deal of alcoholic warmth.

(33 cl bottle). Deep golden brown colour, no haziness, large head. Aroma is not very strong, but pleasant - yeasty and fruity (canned plums), some spices and herbs too. Full bodied sweet flavour, still quite smooth. Brown candy sugar, Christmas fruit cake spices and herbs prevail. Some alcoholic warmth, but not dominant. A great sipping beer!

Bottle: Poured a dark brown beer with a nice head with medium retention. Aroma is comprised solely of some malt, which seems a bit weak. Taste is somewhat malty, though a bit too diluted for my taste, with a light chocolate ending. Carbonation is very average and body in too thin for an Abbey Dubbel. Overall, this is a notch below standard dubbel but very good for a macro beer. Hey, I think the world would be a better place if macro brewers could produced more beer like this one.

Bottled (BB 02/2005)
Dark ruby brown. Steady big off-white head, lace. Aroma is sweet berries. Taste is bittersweet with nice sweet and alcoholic aftertaste. Very drinkable and quite similar to Leffe Bruin.

Bottled (BB 04/2005)
Dark brown color. Creamy off-white head, lace. Aroma is medium-stregth malts, prunes and raisins. Carbonated, sweet, very drinkable palate: raisins and citron are in the flavor. One of the easiest main label abbeys I think. Short finish. This one hides all alcohol very well.

This beer pours a medium yellow with a bright white frothy head. Strong yeast scent with almost lemon citrus notes. A little sugar in the background. First taste was quite yeasty but smooth. Tastes like most Belgian beer does to me. The finish was very slightly bitter with a sourish citrus favour to it. The palate was doughy yeast till the end.

Bottle
Light copper brown, creamy off-white head. Complex herbal fruity aroma, maybe horse radish. I am not a big fan of Belgian ales, so malty leather taste is not so enjoyable. Taste is also fruity.
