Description

Swing top bottle. Sweet herbal barley malt aroma. Nice copper color with large fluffy head. Sweet toffee malt and light grass hops flavor. Alcohol/metallic finish. Okay - just nothing special.

Bottle, 4.9%. Mild hay aroma. Clear golden colour. Big stable white head. The flavour is mildly bitter, there is a faint hint of aroma hops. Clean, but not so interesting.

swing top bottle (500ml). -Bought on gas station somewhere in Germany (Frankfurt I guess). Red/amber coloured, medium sized off-white head, malty bready nose. Sweet malty, roasted bready and sugary with notes of caramel and herbs. Dry nutty finish. Rather average beer.

0.5l bottle, like in the picture, courtesy of ogivlado who shared it with me. Poured a clear darker brown/red body with a thick woff white head that settled down quite slowly. Whee a dark landbier, how cute. Sweet, slightly woody malty nose with notes of cocoaa, kinda nice actually. The taste doesn’t live up to the nose though. A light acidic hopiness that goes into bitterness goes in front of a grainy maltiness, relatively nutty, with notes of chocolate turning into dog food somewhere along the way, which doesn’t help the beer much. A bit on the light site, but I didn’t mind it as much as ogi did. Aah, ok, a fine nutty dunkel? ruined slightly by something that someone other might not perceive as a flaw.

Location: 500 ml swing-top bottle from Whole Foods - Bowery, 10/23/09
Aroma: The nose is a lot of sweet malts and bread, some roasted characteristics, some caramel
Appearance: Pours a clear dark reddish-brown color with a thick off-white head and quite a bit of lace
Flavor: A nice grainy malt flavor, pretty bready, a bit toasty, a bit nutty, with some pretty subdued herbal hops
Palate: Medium body, slightly watery, but not to the detriment of the beer
Overall Impression: This Landbeir is my first Zwickel/Keller/Landbier rating! It's always exciting to see that one of the few styles I am yet to rate is no longer empty. And now, on to the beer...
This one is pretty nice. It's a fairly flavorful beer. It has some good characteristics, and a nice malty flavor. I like it. I'm not sure whether it is a good representation of the style or not, but what I do know is that it is a pretty darn good beer.
