Description
Een wijkbrouwerij zoals elke wijk er vroeger eentje had: dat is Gistgeest. Naast het Boelaerpark, in mijn kelder, brouw ik op 120 liter bieren en stijlen waar ik zelf fan van ben. Saison, ipa, stout of zonderstijl. Kleinschalig en zonder poespas, maar steeds met veel smaak. En ik doe het allemaal zelf – van recepten verzinnen, over brouwen, tot bottelen.

Good white head over hazy ochre-orange beer. Muscat grapes from the outset, fortified by the C-hops. Bit of caramel malt underlying. Bitter-hoppy-grapey, and in perfect balance. Underlying caramelly sweetness only helps the balance. Furthermore, I get a flavour as from roast jacketpotatoes, believe it or not. Alcohol, medium to well-bodied, medium to good carbonation. Surprisingly good!

Medium, off-white head over deep reddish amber beer, veiled. Caramel, toasted malts, alcohol... as to smoke? Caramel, some kind of honeyed corn flakes and a faint spicy hint. Wheat is not obvious, neither the smoke. Alcohol is extremely hidden for its claimed 11% ABV. Light alcoholburn and -thinning. Slick, bit oily, medium to well-bodied. This might have been more pushed towards the smoke. There is balance, but it doesn't confer much enjoyment.

Thin if stable yellow head over fully hazy orange beer. Ureum-rich hops, other grains, wild yeast. Dry, other grains, kernels, alternative breads & pasta, wholemeal bread. Finish has some serious bitterness. Quite slick but not very well-bodied. Mild carbonation. Nice, less kveik than in similar tries, too much yeast-oriented.
