Description
Glen Spean Brewing Co is based in an historic steading in the village of Spean Bridge at the heart of the West Highlands, where neighbours Ian Peter, James and Lucy have faithfully converted a mid-19th century steading from where we make our beautifully crafted beers. The soft, Lochaber waters brings a distinct character and together with our carefully crafted recipes led us to win the ‘Best Beer’ at the Highlands and Islands Food & Drink awards in 2019.

With views over the Grey Corries, Aonoch Mor and Ben Nevis, this lovely old building has allowed us to create a beautiful space from which to sell our beer, local whiskies and gins and a selection of exclusive and interesting wines.

Bottle from Misty Bottle. It pours opaque black with a dark tan head. The aroma is dark roasted malt, dark chocolate, burnt toast, touch of blackcurrant jam, mellow vanilla, umami, liquorice allsorts and some ash. The taste is dry, dark roasted malt, bitter - sweet, blackcurrant jam, slightly charred, umami, liquorice allsorts, cacao nibs, dark chocolate and muted vanilla with a dry roasted finish. Medium body and moderate, fluffy carbonation. All comes together well. Adjuncts are not artificial feeling or overbearing.

Bottle from the Misty Bottle, Skye. It pours hazy deep chestnut brown with a tiny white head head. The aroma is toasty grains, nutty, brown bread, toffee / caramel, biscuity malts and some dried fruits. The taste is firmly dry, toasted nuts, earthy, toffee, dried fruits, fruit cake, touch of spice, earthy, wood and leather with a drying finale. Medium body and average carbonation. Fairly toothy stuff. Ok, but not as drinkable as I would have hoped.
