Pint, cask: in Ye Olde Fighting Cocks, Oakengates on 6th May 2014. Pours a light golden colour with a white crown that left some heavy lacing on the glass. Hoppy and zesty, the zesty bit coming from the citrus notes that dominate the aroma and taste. Refreshing but too citrusy for my palate.

Cask at the Black Country Arms, Walsall. Poured a dark mahogany with a frothy white head. The aroma is caramel roasted malt and light fruit. The flavour is medium bitter with a rich roasted malt liqourice bitter, red berry fruit vanilla palate. Full bodied with soft carbonation and rich oily mouthfeel. Very rich and more like a stout than a porter. A superb beer with lots going on.

Tap at Port Street Beer House, Manchester. Hazy gold colour. Minimal, white head. Barley sugar. Mandarin. Hint of medicine or, according to the Missus, dentist’s gas and air. Taste is ripe banana sweet, emphasised by the very light carbonation. A light spice comes through near the end. Off dry finish. A fine beer, although a bit sweet at the beginning, for me.

Cask at The Blue Bell, York. Dark brown, near black, long-lasting beige head. Big chocolate aromas, light vanilla. Sweet taste, more like a milk stout than a porter. Nice though.

Cask handpull at The Exmouth arms Farringdon. Black beer lasting beige head. Huge chocolate on the aroma. Almost comical chocolate in the mouth like powdered chocolate. 10 years ago this was acceptable. Now? Nope must try harder. Putting more of something into a beer doesn?t mean it?s better. Had to leave it. Way too much chocolate. 2.6 cask gravity at Firkin Alehouse Folkestone. Better than before clearly. Lots of chocolate some vanilla. Ok.

Cask at the Lyric, 17/03/14. Black with a good sized tan head that retains well. Nose is sweet chocolate, vanilla essence, caramel fudge, sugary notes. Taste comprises much the same, sweet lickings, choco vanilla fudge. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, massageing on the palate, sweet close. Looks and feels good but overly sweet at the business end for me.

Lightly hazy amber beer, small bubbly white head. Palate is smooth and slightly soft. Mild fine carbonation. Smooth light malt base, whisper of cream. Nice hops - juicy orange - tangerine - lemon. Mild hop sting. Little floralness. Comes together really well to a light finish. Mild fruity linger, Good stuff!

Amber-brown, thin head. Aroma has a lot of floral hop and the pale. Gets a bit syrupy on the palate, as stronger ales often do with cask.

Last Drop Inn, York 26 Jan 13. Gylden. Litt uklar. Lavt tett skum som etterlater teppelacing. Frisk søt aprikosaroma. Smaken litt sukkertøyaktig. Søt. Syrlig & tørr ettersmak.
