Description
Oud Beersel is a traditional lambic brewery whose wort is produced at Boon. The end of my lambic tour! Another great spot. Rather low acidity lambics, which is nice after half a week of too much lambic 😆 soft and elegant

750mL at the International Geuze & Kriek festival. Pours hazy blonde with a white head. Musty old wood and mildew on the nose. Flavour has old wood, must, mildew. Very good.

750mL bottle at International Geuze & Kriek Festival 2025, pours a clear pale golden with a small white head. Aroma has lots of wet wood, barnyard funk, and some citrus. Flavour has a wonderful barnyard funk, wet wood, light citrus and a touch of hay. Beautiful funk and woody dry finish. Excellent.

Draught Rather disparate, if reasonably stalbe transparant to white head, over orange to ochre beer, opaque. Old wet wood, oak, horseblanket, farmyard, bit of sulphur, very dried orange peel. Sun-dried mud. Ultra dry, bit of chewing gum, lemon, horseblanket. Sour celeri, if that makes sense; lettuce with lemon vinaigrette. Dry wood and lots of tannins. Light acidthinning, ultra tart. Excellent, another one that just blends well, and extremely drinkable at that. NB the use of birch bark baffles me, however, since we always learnt that our farthest ancestors drew a kind of tarr out of birch bark...

On tap at Billie's. Pours clear ruby with a pinkish head. Tons of fresh raspberry amd cherry on the nose. Flavour has more sweet red cherries than raspberry. Not much funk or yeast expression. It's a good fruited beer, but I would not have guessed that this is a lambic.

Draught Faint transparant head over veiled copperish-yellow beer. Wild yeast, Brettanomyces, horseblanket, and stonefruit as nectarine, as well, yes, a peppery aroma. Sulphur. Pink pepper - and obvious, recognisable, but not overdone, subtle. Again stonefruit, lactic acid. Light acidthinning, almost no carbonation. The pink pepper is a trouvaille, it blends seamlessly in, without overwhelming, making the lambic more complex.
