On gravity at the Old Tavern, Bristol 23/2/08. Dark brown with reddish undertones and no head. Aroma of plums, molasses and roasted malt. Flavour had some chocolate and fruit before a decent grassy hop finish. Very good.

On gravity at the Old Tavern, Bristol 23/2/08. Deep gold in colour with a slight white head. Aroma of sweet malt with a slightly roasted edge, typical of Arbor beers. Flavour was also sweet with some earthy hops and a bitter finish. Good, but tasted more like a strong bitter than a golden ale.

Brewed exclusively for the Watershed, Bristol to mark its silent film festival January 2008. Cask-conditioned at the Watershed 23/108. Chestnut coloured with a decent tan head that left rings down the glass. Typical Arbor aroma of red fruit, earthy hops and a touch of roasted malt. Full, almost chunky, mouth feel with plenty of malt and a long bitter finish. Good.

Cask-conditioned at the Bag O’Nails, Bristol, 9/12/07. Another hard to classify Arbor beer - as it’s based on Slumberjack, porter seems closest. This was almost black with a slight red tinge and a slight tan head, that left plenty of lacing. The aroma was of dark chocolate, cinnamon, and prunes. The flavour started with some sweet chocolate before cloves and roasted notes kicked in with a long dry finish. The addition of port was evident through the vinous mouth feel. A very enjoyable Christmas beer. Outside of the Christmas period this is known as "Snuffy Jack’s Winter Ale".

Cask conditioned at the brewery tap, the Old Tavern Bristol 24/11/07. This was another Arbor beer that was very hard to categorise. Near black with a slight tan head. The aroma was predominantly roasty with some dark chocolate. The flavour was also dominated by roasted malt with some dark fruit and a vaguely dry finish. Not bad.

Cask conditioned at the brewery tap, the Old Tavern Bristol 24/11/07. Near black with a thin tan head. Aroma of coffee, dark fruit and some sweet malt. The flavour had more chocolate and fruit plus some tobacco. The finish had plenty of dryness and a tarry edge. Excellent.

Cask gravity at Nottingham BF 2007. Ruby/brown with beige head. Little bit of mintyness on slightly watery, slightly grainy beer. Fine, just a bit watery.

Cask gravity at St Albans BF 2007. Black with brown edges. Thin pale tan head. Stouty aroma. Quite oily. But hoppy as well. Good integrated alcohol. Bit of rubber. Good, bit minty on end too. Some ashtray. As Chris_o said, it had true ersatz, the whole was the better than the sum of the parts. Good start to the Friday session.

Cask-conditioned at the Hillgrove Porter Stores, Bristol 16/8/07. Bronze coloured with a slight, off-white yet lacy head. Slight nutty malt aroma. Mouthfeel started slightly watery before the flavour kicked in. This was malty with a chocolate edge, big for such a low strength beer. A decent bitter finish. Very good and a bit mild-like.
