Description
Joseph Holt is a unique brewery: it embodies both traditional values and exceptional brewing. For more than 160 years the company has not only created and developed award winning beer, but also served the community of which it forms a part of. It has built sustainable jobs and worked with charities to deliver substantial benefits to people living in the brewery’s area of operations and beyond.
Established in 1849, Joseph Holt Ltd has been managed by its founding family for five generations. Throughout that time the company has been driven by traditions of professionalism, honesty and innovation. So the business, although rooted in the traditional values of a family firm with a reputation built on traditional draft and bottled beer, has always looked to evolve. The most recent developments in that evolution are the Crystal and Diamond range of lagers and the Golden Ale Two Hoots. These products join the collection of award winning lagers and excellent Smooth and Black keg beer.
The brewery has an established pub estate that is carefully managed to ensure that it is focused on growth.

Cask @ Park Hotel, Monton. Golden with a small head. Gritty on its nose, with a malt-hop infused stewed fruitiness. The latter is evident in its taste too.

Bottle. Appearance - deep amber with a red hue. A decent head. Nose - maple, as well as usual toffee. Taste - more toffee, light nuttiness, maple I suppose. Palate - close to medium bodied with a rich creamy middle section and a finish which could be a little cleaner, to be honest. Overall - a decent ESB but I’d like more clean biscuit notes on the finish.

(Bottle) Clear coppery amber with almost no head. Pleasant but subtle light toffee aroma. Medium body with good carbonation. Nice taste - rich and sweet with toffee malt flavours and distinct maple notes with some slight tangy and bitter balance. Good beer with maple present but not overwhelming. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle shared at the tropical Croydon tasting at Paul’s. 01/07/2015. Reddy / caramel brown coloured pour with a loose light tan head. Aroma is farmyard, dirty, stale malts, malty, some alcohol. Flavour is composed of nutty malts, metallic notes, spicy rough bitterness. Some jammy fruits in the Irish. Palate is medium sweet, little papery. Bad.

Bottle on an ASDA deal as part of budget month. Nose is muted, dark malts, some fruit cake, raisin, dry bread yeast note, slight herbal hop note. Taste is dark malts, chocolate, bread, must, raisins, slight sherry, red berry’s. The finish is dry, nutty and slightly metallic. Mouthfeel is too thin for the style.
