Description
Abbaye de Brogne was introduced by Brasserie Defosse in 1982 and, in later years, was brewed by Affligem then Lefèbvre. The brand is now owned by brewer Bruno Deghorain of La Binchoise.

Thanks to Bruno, the Abbaye de Brogne Brune and Blonde are now brewed at a brand new microbrewery in the grounds of the abbey itself.

Bottle shared by tderoeck, cheers. Eggshell-white, thick, lacing, irregular head, clear coppery amber coloured robe with lively sparkling. Aroma of melting caramel candy, dried orange peel, lots of coriander seed, hazelnut oil, old dried 'herbes de Provençe', tofu, apple peel, nutmeg, cinnamon. Sweet onset but not too cloying, a tad honeyish and fruity with medium carb; smooth, bit resinous body based on caramelly malt sweetness increasingly drenched in ethereal, over-the-top spiciness - reminiscent of an old spice rack and including clove, coriander, thyme and ginger as suggested aromas. Vague metallic note in the end as well as lingering caramelly malt sweetness. Very 'dusty old spice rack' Christmas ale, sweet and old-fashioned, but as such and within its specific range, a correct beer.

Imported from my RateBeer account as Brogne Bière de Noël (Spéciale) (by Brasserie de l'Abbaye de Brogne):
Aroma: 7/10, Appearance: 5/5, Taste: 6/10, Palate: 3/5, Overall: 11/20, MyTotalScore: 3.2/5

19/VII/18 - 75cl bottle from OBER Kerstbierfestival 2016 (Essen), as "Brogne Bière de Noël 8.5%", shared with Alengrin @ Belgian Ticks Tasting (home) - BB: 6/IX/18 (2018-850)

Note: apparently it was not the 7% like they put in the festival booklet, but it was the 8.5% version.

Clear orange to amber beer, big creamy off-white head, very stable, adhesive, leaving a nice lacing in the glass. Aroma: very spicy, caramel malts, cloves, nutmeg, big sourish, grains, more spices. MF: very lively carbon, medium body. Taste: very spicy, cloves and nutmeg, hint of oranges, dusty, little dirty. Aftertaste: sweet malts, some caramel, alcohol, little bitter, more dusty, old spices...

Lichtgeel bier met veel schuim. Smaak is zoet en licht zoet kruidig met iets van citrus, mango en sinaasappel.Smaak blijft redelijk lang hangen.

Copper colour with lasting head. Aroma and flavour have some dryness and cork. Some yeasty undertones. Really basic and lacking in depth and complexity.

Thanks for sharing! Sampled 750 ml. bottle @ Kerstbierfestival 2017. Now this is something very different coming from a brewery like this a BA Barley Wine for Christmas. Hazy orange, little head. Nose is brutally alcoholic in a bad way, too heavy BE esters, chemical, soap,… Harsh cheap cognac alcoholic, BE esters, overly fizzy, raw sugar,… I wanted to like it more but at least they tried.
