Bottle from het Biermoment, dated 11 2016, 33 cl sample. Dark color, medium frothy head. Aroma of lots of dark chocolat, smoked and bacony, and some roasty coffee. Roasty bitterness, dark chocolat, slight smokey notes. Barrel is just very subtle, which is perfect for me. Lots of dark chocolat and some coffee, all on the bitter side and not much cookie sweetness. Nice brew.

Bottle. Orange copper color. Aroma of caramel, malt, yeast, bourbon vanilla and grassyness. Taste has bourbon vanilla, yeast, fainted hop fruit, caramel and a little iron. Too much co2, bit annoying. Good idea, but it doesn’t work as well as it could.

33 cl bottle @ home. Pours very dark, but not quite black. Light brown head with a thin blanket retention. Aroma’s" hard roasted malts, ground coffee. Retronasal it’s heavy roast, black coffee, light sweetness, light red fruit. Flavor is light sweet, with a hint of roasty sourness. Alcohol is warming. Medium bodied. Long finish with heavy roast, medium bitter.

Bottle @ home. Opaque black color, medium to full sized a bit foamy yet long lasting light brown colored head. Aroma is malts, dark roasted malts, dark chocolate, espresso. Taste malts, light espresso, roast, some liquor. Hmm there’s something weird in the flavor. Maybe a bit vegetal coffee. And the palate isn’t my thing either, a bit fizzy / firm carbonation that doesn’t suit the beer. Hmm too bad, think it had potential. --- Beer merged from original tick of Basement Barrel Aged - Nr. 04 Jim Beam on 03 Oct 2017 at 16:00 - Score: Appearance - 8 | Aroma - 8 | Flavor - 8 | Texture - 8 | Overall - 8. Original review text: Bottle @ home. Opaque black color, medium to full sized quite dense light brown colored head that lasts for quite a long time. Aroma is malts, whiskey, bourbon, coffee, roasted malts. Taste malts, roasted malts, whiskey, wood, coffee, malt and whiskey bitter finish. Medium body, somewhat thin texture, medium carbonation. Quite nice.

Bottle from het Biermoment, bottled Nov 2016, 33 cl sample. Almost clear amber to copper color, medium frothy head leaving decent amount of lacing. Aroma has a lot of cookie and vanilla from Makers Mark, slight earthy hops and some toffee and caramel malt. Soft to medium bitterness, cookie sweetness and quite some barrel, giving oak and a bit of boozy alcohol. Not a lot left of a fresh DIPA ofcourse, so I wonder what they intenddd with it. Feels like an old DIPA now, going towards a malty american strong ale, but then with decent barrel aging, that really added something. Quite enjoyable, but expect a BA american strong ale more than DIPA.

Bottle at home. Almost black with big darker beige head. Looks good! Some lime on the nose at first. Grassy hops, more lime, grapefruit, light ash, dark chocolate, dried apricot. Quite fruity and roasted, with chocolate sweetness and some grassy bitterness. Really what you’d expect from a typical black IPA. Medium bodied with carbonation a it in the fizzy side. Enjoyable beer.

Very dark brown pour with a fine light espresso head that gives way to a long-lasting velvety lacing. Notes of bourbon, vanilla, cherries, tons of oak barrel, chocolate, roasted malts, tobacco. Full body, medium carbonation and a bitter-sweet bourbony finish. --- Beer merged from original tick of Basement Barrel Aged - Jim Beam - BA/RIS on 01 Dec 2016 at 22:52 - Score: 8
