(Bottle, 0.33 l - BBE N/17, at Flying Dutch, 20160825) The beer poured brown and hazy. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had molasses and grass. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were malts, grass, molasses and bitterness. Aftertaste was malty and bitter. A Belgian dunkler bock? Not bad but confusing.

330ml Bottle - Hazy blonde/amber with a foamy head. Peach, dried apricot and some spicy notes in the aroma. Fruity, tangy and slightly spicy taste with peach, apricot, lemon zest and some peppery hops.

Special oak aged edition of Zuiderbierke, at Modeste, from tap. Irregular but dense and moussy, yet quickly opening, lacing, pale beige head over a cloudy burgundy beer with ruby hue. Aroma has old school spice liqueur in large quantities, hints of Antwerpian ’borstbollen’, Jägermeister and overly sweet cough syrup, vanilla, toasted bread, caramel, chocolate liqueur, honey. Sweet estery fruitiness in the mouth, blue grape, banana, pear with candi sugar poured over them, bit sticky, lean and supple caramelly maltiness with soft carbonation, tart edge leading to a more complex finish in which the cloying candi sweetness and lingering malt sweetness get the company of drying woodiness (but gently so), a deep earthy hop bitterishness without being truly bittering, and that retronasal sweet spiciness again, a tad medicinal but in itself not unpleasant. Different from what I expected, but a fascinating brew for sure, with enough layers of flavour to keep one’s attention.

Sampled @ Gents Bierfestival 2015 Trübes dunkel goldenes Bier mit einer mittelgroßen weißen Schaumkrone. Geruch sehr süß malzig, Honig, hopfig. Geschmack süß malzig, Honig, schwach hopfig.

330 ml. bottle sampled @ 20ste Zomerbierfestival. That label, there are no words to describe it. I am not even entirely certain that it was meant ironically. Hazy orange, small solid white head. Nose is orange peel, banana, honey, sugar, caramel, overall rather bland. Taste is bland orange peel, honey, caramel, orange peel, iron, plastic, sugar,.. Lightly hazy,… Acceptable but quite dull.

Herb, malzig würziger Beginn. Leicht herb, süßlich, etwas fruchtig. Herb säuerlich, holzig, rund. 11/11/12/10/8/11
