Bottle at home. Dark brown color, opaque, light red hue, average sized beige head. Aroma is malts, lightly sourish, spicy, clove. Flavor is malts, again clove, lightly "speculaas", spices, lightly sweet. Fizzy carbonation, decent body. Meh. Too much of the spices for me.

This 33 cl bottle brewed by Better Beer Brewers I have in hand was acquired from Finest Belgian Beers. Hmm, do I notice a pattern here? But, admittedly, I do like Belgian styles, particularly quadrupels, over others. To accommodate this serving I brought out my New Belgium snifter. How ironic. The pour is on the darker end of quads, almost black but not quite and with a proper covering of medium brown foam. I like the nose, heavy with dark fruit and then some grain and yeast. The taste is straightforward, no wasted effort. Dark raisins, cherries, dark bread, malt, leather, a little sweet and a little bitter. A dense beer, chewy, I like that. A good brew to have on a late December evening.

Dark brown colour, white foam. Nose of sweet malts, christmas spices, dried fruit. Taste is medium sweet, lots of spices, light bitter finish. Nice!

33cl bottle, BB 9th Oct 2020. Bought and drank in the Bier Paleis, Brugge on 3rd Feb 2020. Light haze to the pale blond body, full white crown on top. Citrus like front to the aroma, taste also has a citrus feel. Similar to it's big brother (the Tripel Gold), it is fairly forgettable and although it's aroma and flavours are subtle it's refreshing enough and not unpleasant.

33cl bottle, BB 11th Jun 2021. Bought and drank in the Bier Paleis, brugge on 3rd Feb 2020. Golden amber body, slight haze from the sediment, decent white topping. The nose had a light herbal aroma, some mild citrus notes too. Taste is a little odd, spiced vegetables with a citrus squeeze of oranges. Late sweetness comes as a pleasant surprise. It's different and interesting I suppose!

Clear purple beer, practically no head. Aroma: sweet, lots of ripe banana, corn flakes, caramel, malty, sugary. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: bitter start, banana peel, bit sweet, dried fruits, lots of alcohol, soft roast. Aftertaste: bit yeasty, alcohol, banana peel, bit fruity, hoppy touch.

The quadrupel in a series of ‘Jurist’ beers gathered under the ‘Better Beer Brewers’ label – I am already getting irritated by the hubris of a mere ‘bierfirma’ referring to themselves as ‘better’ and ‘brewers’ to begin with, but I’ll try to remain as unbiased as possible. Anyway, this ‘Pleidooi’ forms a thick, foamy, pale greyish beige, large-bubbled but stable and thickly lacing head upon pouring, over a misty dark mahogany brown robe with ruddy hue, turning all murky with sediment. Aroma dominated by a clearly added, ethereal spice – very clove- and even eucalyptus-like but actually cardamom seed, with an effect vaguely reminiscent of cough syrup; behind this spice rack onslaught follow impressions of brown bread, baked banana, iron (!), toffee, white rum, dried figs, bitter tree leaves, sugared tea, cane sugar cubes, freshly cut red apples and damp earth. Sweet onset, lots of residual dark sugariness (muscovado sugar-like) sticking to the teeth even; estery aspects of banana, fig, pear and red apple, in a very fizzy environment. Full, rounded, bit resinous maltiness, brown-bready and caramelly with a darker, bitter toasty tail, even briefly and vaguely hinting at bitter chocolate; herbal hop bitter touch blending with the expected overkill of wry, dominating spiciness – that cardamom again – before a rum-like alcohol effect warms things up. Residual sugariness lingers amidst this ‘ethereal’ spice astringency. Overly spicy (also in a phenolic way), too sweet and on the boozy side: a rather crude brew, reminding me of some old school, Scotch-based Belgian Christmas beer. Your honour, I would like to make a plea for less spicing in beer, thank you. Case closed.

33cl bottle from Prik&Tik Kampenhout. F: big yet not long lasting white. C: deep gold, hazy. A: malty, fruity, bit cooked vegetables, caramel, bit green apples, herbal, honey, spicy. T: malty, strange herbal, bit parsley, fruity, spicy, honey touch, vegetables, quite messy all together, medium body and carbonation, this is nothing pleasant balanced at all.

33cl bottle from Prik&Tik Kampenhout. F: medium, white, poor retention. C: pale gold, hazy. A: malty, fruity, peach, citrus, bit grapefruits, lemon water. T: malty, fruity, spicy, bit harsh bitterness, hint of orange peels, herbal, lemongrass expressed in herbal way, medium body and carbonation, nothing very special, partially enjoyed.
