Description
Founder Tsjomme Zijlstra's idea to start his own brewery came to him after his time in England. He started to brew his own beer at home and decided in 2014 that he wanted go bigger. He met Menno and John, owners of Brouwerij de Molen in Bodegraven, and told them his story. They taught him how to brew with one of their old brewing installations. Kaapse Brouwers was born.

We are Kaapse Brouwers. We are the brewers who introduced craft beer to Rotterdam, and Rotterdam to the world. With our Kaapse recipes we brew non-conformist beers. We choose for bold recipes and love to experiment with different flavors to create contemporary craft beers.

33cl blik van ONP5. Troebel bleekgele kleur, witte kraag. Citroen, limoensap, redelijk zuur, fris, veel citrus dus, niet per sé heel hoppig, meer sour ipa-achtig. Deed me in de verte ook wel wat aan de Dorinku van Oedipus denken. Lekker friszuur sapje.

Can 330ml @ geokkjer
Pours hazy golden with a white head. Aroma has notes of malt, citrus, orange and pine. Taste is medium sweet and light to medium bitter with a long malty, citrus and pine finish. Body is medium, texture is thin to oily, carbonation is soft.

Can. A hazy orange colored beer with a dense finger-thick white head. The aroma is piney and grapefruity, with a light touch of pale malts, grass and kiwi. It's meduium to full-bodied, smoothly carbonated, with a gentle bitterness. Pine cones, resin, grapefruit and some kiwi and pale malts in the flavor. Medium length finish. An easy drinkable one, but nothing particular going on. 230408

Can from an online shop, drunk in our rental apartment in Staben on the last night in Südtirol, after an amazing dinner. Clear red-gold, decent but short-lived head. Caramel nose with some cotton candy citrus notes. Honey, lemon, caramel, pretty big bitterness but not the aromatics I'd expect from DDH impy-ipa. Wee bit of alcohol taste at the end.

Porter from the leading craft brewery in Rotterdam, from tap at Hal 16, Dok Noord, Ghent. Pale yellowish beige, creamy, membrane-lacing head on a pitch black beer. Aroma of strong coffee (espresso and coffee filters), pipe tobacco ashes, dried blueberries, bitter black chocolate, bayleaf, dry cookies, hard caramel, roasted walnuts. Some subdued sweetness at first, dried fig and green pear notes, softish carb, full and oily body; hard-caramelly, bitter-chocolatey and roasted-nutty core superseded by very pronounced, spicy and aromatic coffee roastedness, adding a lot of bitterness which matches well with the spiciness of the hops. This prominent coffee aspect brings both full-fledged roasted bitterness and aromatic spiciness here. Clean, sleek and to the point as usual with Kaapse, my kind of (old school) porter.

Can from Foeders, drunk to celebrate a 4 ton cistern being buried in my yard. Yes i can water my hops plants all summer, and when the apocalypse comes i have brewing water. Very dark, with a large light brown head of various sized bubblies. Nose is very roasty, hints of brown sugar and citrus, a bit of pine. The flavor is really nice: toasted, coffee, malty, some resinous lemony notes. Not too dry, but enough black malt and hops to balance the moderate body. Not as much hop aroma as many black IPAs, more of a hoppy stout: right on!

Westcoast ipa can, 7.5%, recipe might have changed if it was 6.5 before. Slight hazy amber, big foamy tan head, nose of huge caramel and resinous piney citrus. Flavor is too sweet, like a caramel Christmas cookie, could use less malty and more hop bitterness - still tasty though. Nice aromas.

Gold with a fleeting, frothy head. Aroma of lemons, a bit artificial and at times reminiscent of a cleaning agent. Taste is sweet, tart, with both trailing off at the end in a watery finish. Light-bodied, moderate carbonation. Not working for me.

Gold with a foamy, white head. Aroma a mix of citrus and grass. More citric than bitter. Light-bodied, watery texture. Not unpleasant.
