Description
Founder Tsjomme Zijlstra's idea to start his own brewery came to him after his time in England. He started to brew his own beer at home and decided in 2014 that he wanted go bigger. He met Menno and John, owners of Brouwerij de Molen in Bodegraven, and told them his story. They taught him how to brew with one of their old brewing installations. Kaapse Brouwers was born.

We are Kaapse Brouwers. We are the brewers who introduced craft beer to Rotterdam, and Rotterdam to the world. With our Kaapse recipes we brew non-conformist beers. We choose for bold recipes and love to experiment with different flavors to create contemporary craft beers.

Bottle at home, cellared this one for 8 months. Pours jet black with beige head. Nose is chocolate, cocoa powder, molasses and booze. Taste is moderately sweet with no bitterness, closing with a slightly dry finish. It shows notes of chocolate, booze, molasses, a touch of cocoa again. Medium bodied with soft carbonation, apart from the lightly dry finish it's nice and silky. Tasty, if a bit one dimensional.

Can shared at Csaka. Deeper golden pour with a thin white head. Nose is caramel, booze and orange zest. Taste is grainy, it shows honey, hay , caramel, orange and warming booze. Closes with a sweet, warming and boozy finish, it has a medium body and soft to average carbonation. Nothing to write hme about, but pretty decent in general.

Bottle. Clear golden body with a dense, beige head. Strong aroma of dry fruit, peach, apricot, resin, malt and warming alcohol. Flavor is really sweet, but in a delicious way with lots of fruit and balancing bitterness, lots of malt as well. A really bold beer with strong flavors and much of everything without feeling unbalanced. Fine body and long lasting aftertaste as well. Delicious.

From tap at Delfts Brouwhuis. On the board as a "reversed brown ale" (whatever that means), so this was unexpectedly sour with dark malt, soft bourbon and vanilla, fruits, light alcohol. Tart and mild sour. Not great and not bad, like a Flanders Red turned Flanders Dark.

Can. Almost black with nice tan head. A lot of sweet berries, lime zest, roasted malts, dark chocolate. Very hoppy and zesty in top of a deep creamy chocolate beer. Solid sweet and bitter, a hint of sourness. Over medium creamy body. Good!
