Bottle thanks to DaSilky. Pours dirty brown with a ever increasing tan head. Some chunks of caramel. Nose and taste of caramel malt, brown sugar, hops and pine. Lightly dry finish. Lots of caramel malt. Smooth. Good tasting beer. Just didn’t look that great in the glass.

Bottle. Slightly hazy amber beer with a cream colored head. Citrus and hay aroma with malt, light spice, and light yeast. Hay and malt flavor with lemon citrus, spice, and light yeast. Medium bodied. Lemon and earth lingers with spice, yeast, and light malt.

Bottle shared by someone one at the post EBF tasting, thanks! Poured a cloudy gold with a white head that dissipated to the edges. Aroma had a combination of light fruits (apple), flowers and some light sweet grains as well as hints of citrus and light spice. Flavor had sweet grains, light fruits and citrus with just a bit of spice in the finish.

Bottle. Notes are from a practice BJCP scoring sheet. The numbers in this rating reflect ratebeer’s hedonistic scale and not my judging numbers.
Aroma: Cinnamon pastries, baked buns, rich dark chocolate, licorice and vanilla initially. Further notes are big with caramel aroma from the malt and noticeably estery. Some breadiness. Hop aromas are low to absent. Light alkalinity. Well done. Aroma is not overtly roasty. No coffee.
Appearance: Extremely dark, black pour. Small and fading tan head that stops as a ring around the glass with some waves across the center. Slight alcohol legs bat down any attempt at lacing on the side of the glass. Slightly glass coating.
Flavor: Rich, nutty, tobacco with roasty characteristics. Coffee and chocolate with a very long duration of flavors. Some alcohol which integrates well with this beer. Medium esters and some vanilla. Bitterness is good while the hop flavors are absent (acceptably so). Burnt toast with a light raisin flavor. Some licorice. Nicely complex yet simple enough to drink without thinking much about the size of the beer.
Mouthfeel: Creamy mouthfeel with a very full body (yet not oppressively so). Some alcohol warmth, medium viscosity for the style (which is to say that it is pretty heavy and thick). Some lasting bitterness on the palate with a lasting nutty flavor. Medium to low carbonation as is appropriate.
Overall Impression: Very well put together. Medium strength and intensity for the style. Quite easy to drink. Hard to find any technical or even stylistic flaws. Well balanced but not as memorable as it could be. This style leads towards excess that this beer doesn’t show. Very well made [added: some of this breweries other beers are not] and drinkable, but not as mind changing or challenging as the classic examples of this style. A very polite beer.

Very cloudy, dirty orange brown color. Doesn’t look appealing, huge huge orange peel and grains of paradise just everywhere. Way over the top which I don’t like, but nice smooth malty mouthfeel. Very low hops, which work well and ultimately make this a fairly palatable brew. Not sweet. Would rush to buy again, but doesn’t.

Capped 750 from Freddie at B 4 L in Santee. Pours really dark brown/black with a 3 finger creamy/foamy dark tan head. Anise wafts from a foot away. Some rich chocolate from up close. Full bodied. Lots of chocolate, burnt toast and some hi quality dark coffee. It is smooth indeed. It has characteristics of a BA IS. They should put this in 6 or 7 different kinds of barrel. I vote for scotch, port and cab to start.

Capped 750 from Beverages 4 Less in Santee. Pours a dark ruddy amber with a 3 finger foamy beige head. Aroma is smooth, almost sweet citrusand resin. Med plus body. Flavor is strong resin and a lot of grapefruit rind following. The malt doesn’t really show up a first. This is far from balanced. Good thing that. The hop is burning a bit like capsaicin. Not a harsh hop bomb, sort of a civilized hop weapon.
