2010 200mL shared by Gene on 7/3/23. Definitely jaune amber. Clear. Rich, playful apples with heavy honey, a hint of cinnamon and plentiful vanilla. Meaty, pulpy, cooked apple is so rich with layers of delightful brown sugar. Rich, sweet, acidic, so balanced. Fruity, red apple, applesauce, cooked pulp and light pepper. Lip smacking acidity. Pepper, cinnamon vanilla lingering.

(750ml bottle from L'Axe du Malt, Quebec City) Pours nearly clear deep gold with almost no head. Notes of semi-sweet baking-type apples with some yeasty pie-like vibes, paired with an interesting array of bitter herbs and wildflowers that lend a certain cocktail-like vibe, also impressions of bitter citrus peels contributing a very light acidity. Finish is off dry and highly bitter with the adjuncts lingering on the tongue for a while. Medium bodied, oily and effectively flat. I felt like the bitter herb addition was very much to my liking but a drier cider with more effervescent carbonation would support them better. Maybe I should have let this one sit for a few months plus?

(750ml bottle from L'Axe du Malt, Quebec City) Pours lightly hazed deep red like a medium bodied red wine, with a small pinkish head that fades without lace. Notes are surprisingly saturated in aronia berries giving a huge concentration of acidic red wine notes with red forest berry, cherries, punchy tannins and earthy, somewhat spicy accents, some lightly sweet apples helping to keep balance to light sweet and light tart, finishing quite dry and notably tannic with lots of lingering red wine and almost woody earthy notes. Medium bodied, average carbonation. Awesome, I thought the berry quality here was more intense than in Auval's aronia beer but the wine notes it imparts are lovely.
