About
Twickenham Fine Ales was the first brewery in Twickenham since Cole’s Brewery closed in 1906. In the beginning there was a 10 barrel plant which was installed in a small unit opposite a Greggs Bakery factory – pint and a pasty seeming natural bedfellows.

The early days of experimentation and trial settled down with the arrival of Tom Madeiros, as Brewer, in 2005. Being American the use of American hops seemed a natural path and Twickenham became an early adopter of the now popular and more common place hops used in many beers today.

The variety of hops grew and Twickenham now uses hops from countries including: England, Germany, Slovenia, USA, Australia and New Zealand.

Not really to my taste. Pint in The Albany, Twickenham before the England v Wales Six Nations match.

[Cask at the Old Manor (JDW), Bracknell.] A reddish chestnut pour with a tight cream head; sugary malt aroma; rather thin, but smooth, sweet and malty with a touch of winter spices. A pleasant wintry ale.

Cask at Prince Arthur, Fleet. Darkest with a red tint. Thin foamy beige head. Aroma has raspberry and cacao. Flavourwise it is then quite limp. Very mild coffee and watery raspberry with cardboard malts. Light-medium bodied. Slick. Soft-fizzy carbonation. Long dry slightly astringent finish. Not great.

Cask at Prince Arthur, Fleet. Darkest amber. Opaque. Foamy beige head. Bitter. Woody. Slightly vinous. Tangy light sour. Underlying sweetness. Light-medium bodied. Slick. Soft-average carbonation. Long dry somewhat astringent finish. Doesn't do much for me... just differing takes on bitterness.

Quite nice. Tastes like autumn (but not in a Fantôme way). Post-Donovan drink.

[Cask at the Hope Tap (JDW), Reading.] A bright straw coloured pour with a thin white head; aroma of pine and citrus; tropical fruit taste with a sharp leafy bitterness; followed by some pithy citrus to finish. Rather tasty.
