Bottle at Chriso’s Fullers-Gales Tasting. 1996 bottle 5159 (thanks to Leighton) - pours deep brown with no head. The nose is gingerbread, vinous, vinegar, tangy dark fruit (red grape and prune) and Christmas cake. The taste is very fruity indeed - prune, date, sloeberry and blueberry, varnish, hint of spice, sherry-like qualities, alcohol warmth and delicious tartness. Medium-full body and no carbonation. Great balance of sweet and sour, 4/5. 2005 bottle (thanks to chriso) - mouldy, musty, oxidised nose. The taste has a lot less fruit and is much boozier, 3.1/5. 2006 bottle (thanks to chriso) - this is a return to the more fruity, sweet-sour flavours of the 96 bottle. Good tart fruit and spice. Better carbonation, 3.9/4.

Bottle at Chriso FullersGales Tasting. 1996 bottle 5159. Slightly cloudy mid brown beer. Musty aroma. Some alcohol. No carbonation. Touch of puke. Some old ale musty fruity intense fruit. Distilled fruits. Sweet and sour. Good intense flavours but maybe a bit too musty for me. 2005 vintage woody less fruity some sherry notes. Very sherry. Very aged. Not what i was expecting and not really very good. 2.3/5 2006 bottle thanks chris. Clear lovely beer. Less musty more fruit led. Very bitter lovely port flavours very decent. Still a bit weird frankly. Strong alcohol. Very warming on end. Better fruit. 3.6/5

Sample from 33 cl. bottle. 2002 Vintage. Courtesy of Ungstrup. Clear, brown colour with no head. Strong, sweet aroma with light notes of ripe fruits. Full bodied. No carbonation. Finish is sweet and lasting - coffee, chocolate, toffee and light caramel. An old beer still with some enjoyment.

1982 Vintage 275 ml. bottle served in a lambic basket @ Kulminator: A: clear sherry/pomegranate ruby with no head, only some brief bubbles - S: medicinal syrup, musty cherries, sherry & candy sugar – T: follows in suit, tart & musty cherries, cobwebs, syrup, medicinal, cough syrup, plenty of sherry, cork, oxidated, caramel, touch liquor – B: cherry syrup – an odd one, can’t say if it is the age or not but I am guessing that it plays a major factor – interesting but not overly impressive – I have seen an equal and odd taste evolution as here in the Andhrímnir

A bottle from barley wine shared with Petrus. No head, no carb, still promissing nose with lots of honey, plums and figs. But the tast is a bit flat and sour. misstored or to old? Still drinkable but not as good as expected.

275ml Bottle - Hazy copper in colour. Leather, vinous fruits, caramel and mince pies in the aroma. Rich, fruity and slightly spicy taste with notes of mince pies, Christmas pudding, marzipan and nuts. In good condition after all these years and another reason to lament the closure of Gale’s.

Smakade på en gammal flaska, minns inte årtalet hösten 2008 som hade fantastiska honungs- och marsipantoner, torkad frukt, portvin. Jag är svag för denna typ av öl, därav det höga betyget.
