Tasting at Ryan's, can
Chocolatey and bready, with dark fruits, and alcohol warmth; this is the liquid version of some sort of Christmass pudding; a bit too much roasted character for me. It's messy, but drinkable.

Poured from 473mL can (2023 vintage). Clear copper brown with minimal white head. Bourbon and mild orange wine character, feint dried dark fruits, thin-medium bodied. A bit lacking overall, haven't tried the Abbey Quad base, but not all that impressed, aroma is better than the taste. Not a drain pour at least.

Poured from 473mL can (2023 vintage). Near black with small beige head. Woody, raisin, cognac and port (especially the port) is more prevalent than the bourbon, the blend of different styles is a bit of a mish-mash that doesn't know what it wants to be. Thinner-medium bodied. Would generally think they should just choose a road and stick to it instead of blending everything, but I've tried the individually styled Howe Sound beers, and would say blending them does taste better when taking into consideration the base beers. It's decent.

4oz pour at their East Van taproom. Pours clear gold with a white head. Aroma has bright lemony sugars, maybe some pine. Flavour has a ton of artificial lemon sugars up front, resinous pine underneath. Clean, but lacks a good WC hop expression.

4oz pour at their East Van taproom. Pours murky brown with off-white head. Aroma has a nice roasted malt/coffee profile. Flavour has nutty, toasted malts. Simple, but well done.

4oz pour at East Van taproom. Pours clear yellow with white head. Not much aroma. Flavour has damp straw, pale malts, some bitterness from hops. Not great.

4oz pout at their East Van taproom. Pours murky dark orange with white head. Aroma has a generic berry jam. Flavour has lactose, light berries, some stringent berry notes on the finish. Berry flavours are muddled; not unpleasant but pretty boring.

Poured from 473mL can (canned 2021-11-18). Near black with small beige head. Fruity dark chocolate, some wood, aroma is better than the taste, okay. One of the better recent Howe Sound imperial stouts.
