Pours dark mahogany with full mocha head and some sheet lacing. The aroma is full and rich and inviting with notes of citrus hops mixing with pin hop resin, some chocolate, sweet toffee candy and a thin layer of dark roasted malts. The taste is rich with dark roasted malts running into a firm layer of pine hop bitterness as well as citrus hops around the edges. By midway the malt sweetened citrus surges forward just in front of lingering pine hop resin and dark roasted malts. Man. I can drink this all the time. Yum.

Pression @ Lagerhaus. Cette bière renforce mon idée que ce style de Black IPA est franchement une bonne découverte. Couleur est brune avec une mousse dans des tons léger moka. Arôme de malt, grillé, limite de la molasse, caramel, le tout est agrémente de note de citron et de houblon. Au palais, cette dernière donne un superbe goût de grillé et de malt le tout suivi de qcq notes de café en poudre, de grains le tout étant balance par le houblon et un côté pin et citron qui caractérisent ce style de bière.

Served on cask at Beer Run in Charlottesville, VA. Pours a dark brown color with a medium sized creamy tan head. Good head retention and lacing. Aroma of Floral and citrus hops and some caramel. The taste is bitter hops, bitter roasted malts, citrus, earthy notes and caramel. Medium bodied.

On tap, pours deep gold with a medium white head. Strong rye and pale malt aroma. Flavor is nice with nutty rye malt, heavy pine hops dry finish. Like a hopped up rye ale.

Aroma: The nose is toasty and roasted malts, earthy hops, and some citrus
Appearance: The pour is a muddy brown-black with a small tan head
Flavor: Flavor is balanced, has a good combination or roasted malts and hops
Palate: The body is somewhat thick, its medium-full bodied, but still drinks pretty smoothly
Overall Impression: Overall, this is a solid black IPA. It isn't anything spectacular, but its certainly worth trying. I always like these beers where they send the proceeds to charity, that is certainly always a good thing. Anyway, it is a solid beer, and worth buying at least once.

Aroma: The nose has some floral notes, citrus, grains, and a little toast
Appearance: It started as a gusher, eventually a mostly clear golden beee with a small white head
Flavor: The taste is balanced, but a touch off, much like the nose, sweet grainy malts and floral hops
Palate: The body is a touch on the thin side, drinks alright, but with a lasting astringency on the mouth
Overall Impression: Overall, I wasn't too impressed with this one. I thought the nose was decent, but it was a gusher with a mediocre flavor and a weird aftertaste. I won't be rushing out for this one again. Maybe I got a bad bottle, but I'm just not that enticed to rush out for it again.

Crisp light golden body with a tonne of bubbles rising from the bottom, a very thick tan head, as well. Aroma of corn, caramel, yeast, funky basement and a bit more corn. Light-bodied; Pretty awful caramel and corn flavour with some yeast taste and a lot of very foul malt tastes. Aftertaste is just as potent - bad, strong and not flavourful in a good way at all. Overall, a pretty bad beer - even for a marzen. I wouldn’t recommend this at all to anyone, even for someone who’s looking for a marzen with a mild taste. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle, purchased from Oliver’s Beverage in Albany, New York on 04-September-2010, sampled at home in Washington on 18-November-2010.

Draft at Rattle N Hum. Amber body with a diminishing off-white head. Aroma of toasted grain, caramel, hay and bread. Notes of herbs and dough. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly to moderately sweet and lightly bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Overly sweet, even for a Vienna.

Bottle from Oak Tree. Pours copper with a light beige head. Aromas of lightly roasted malt and some light hop. Med body/frothy carb. Flavor is caramel with something suggesting herb or metallic. Uncertain there. It is definitely bitter. Could be some diacetyl, but it’s mild, if present.

Bomber pours copper with weak tan head. The aroma has sweet malts, a touch of sweet fruity esters and a decent level of rye like spiciness. The taste is nice. It has a smooth somewhat sweet body delivering up notes of sweet malts, crystal malts and a sense of perfectly ripe red cherries around the edges. Toward midway a firm pleasing spiciness comes to the surface and nearly dominates the flavor into the finish. Smooth tasty one that offers up a nice spicy rye fix.
