About
We’re a friendly bunch of Yorkshire folk with a passion for all things ale. Since 2015, we’ve been driven by a passion for innovating ales, while sticking to the traditional methods and high quality that you know and love.

The North Riding Brewery is based in the village of Snainton, just outside the seaside town of Scarborough, Yorkshire. Every day we’re blessed with chocolate box views of God’s own county and refreshing sea air. You could say there’s a little taste of Yorkshire in every brew.

Our production process is simple. We currently brew three times a week in our microbrewery, focusing on hop-forward modern ales with the finest ingredients.

Our mission is to delight your taste buds with a little love from Yorkshire. We’ll drink to that.

First brewed during March 2015 using a 10BBL plant. Initially it was based at the Betton Business Park, East Ayton, Scarborough. It is a sister brewery to North Riding Brewpub. In Summer 2019 the brewery relocated to their current location.

The majority of the output now comes from East Ayton but the brewpub also continues to operate, primarily for small batch beers sold at the pub, test brews and the occasional festival special.

Cask at Smithfield, Derby. As “Chocolate Fudge” but ABV agreed. Pours a very dark reddish brown with a small cream head. Has chocolate and caramel in the nose. Mouth is crammed full of milk chocolate, with fudge and toffee too plus hints of liquorice. Underneath it all wewre some dark fruits as well. Finish ? Well, it’s yet more chocolate. Very nice, but a bit too heavy on the chocolate really.

Cask at Flowerpot, Derby. Pours almost black with a small cream head. As you might expect, mainly rum in the aromas, but also some coconut and malts. In the mouth it has a creamy texture with the flavour being mainly rum and traces of plums and liquorice. Reasonably nice, but a bit overemphasising the rum. Weirdly this is the 13th North Riding beer I’ve drunk, and every single one has been a dark beer (mild, porter, stout) ! Total coincidence.

Bottle. Beer Central, Sheffield. Opened with barely a noise. Pours a fairly dull gold with some white suds. They really ought to buy some equipment that puts the cap on their bottles properly. Nose has some melon and grapefruit. Taste is light sweet. Hint of bitterness. Flabby on the palate. Low carbonation. Crap condition.

Bottle. Beer Central, Sheffield. Hazed medium gold. Fine, super sticky, lasting white foam. Nose has old fashioned marmalade. Mint stalk. Overripe orange. Hint of rye like spice. Taste has a light sweetness, but is mostly pithy and oily herb bitterness. Sits medium bodied and a little oily, with brisk, fine carbonation. Lingering bitterness to finish. Kernel-esque.

Aroma is chocolate, roasted malts, cookie dough, toffee, touch of dark fruits and blackberries, nut, dried fruit and a hint of banana. Medium sweetness and moderate roasted bitterness. Medium body, smooth texture, very soft carbonation. Cloying, developing bitter finish. Rich, tasty stuff.

Bottle. Beer Central, Sheffield. Hazed gold with a thin and bubbly, lasting, white head. Nose has pink grapefruit and pithy orange. Some green hop leaf. Clean malts. Taste has a light sweetness but it is mostly pithy, citrusy, zesty bitter. In spades. Light and refreshing on the palate. Spritzy carbonation. Lingering bitterness to finish. Great session beer.
