Description
Kirkstall Brewery was inspired by the rich brewing history of Kirkstall village, which later formed part of the city of Leeds. The brewing company boasts a rich history spanning from the 12th century, where the Cistercian monks founded Kirkstall Abbey and began the area’s brewing legacy. The original Kirkstall Brewery was founded in 1871 and was in operation till 1983 when it was closed by its last owners, Whitbread. The buildings have been well preserved and are now home to students of Leeds Metropolitan University. The new Kirkstall Brewery is located on the Leeds Liverpool canal, in the shadow of the original brewery, reviving the tradition of brewing in Kirkstall and the inspiration to once again make the name famous for great beer.

Keg at CBC Old Street, 23/11/17. Black with a handsome tan head. Nose is rich roast, bitter dark chocolate, light spice, molasses. Taste comprises chocolate cake, vanilla essence, light smoke, charr, roasted malts, toffee fudge. Medium plus body, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a light boost. Really good well joined up impy stout ... drinks below the abv and slips down easily.

On tap at Brewdog Liverpool. Pours a near clear deep amber with a ruby hue and a pink head that dissipates to the edges and laces slightly. Aroma is full of sweet and semi tart raspberries and just a hint of yogurt. Flavor is full of sweet raspberry with a hint of tartness underlying.

Keg @ Vocation & Co, Hebden Bridge. Blonde with a healthy hoppy-fruitiness that feels stronger in texture and taste than its percentage may suggest.

500ml bottle at home on 14th Nov 2017, poured into an Abbot Ale glass tankard. Hazy, light golden pour, white blanket of foam on top. Malty nose with an orange/satsuma like undertone aroma wise. Taste is also malt forward with a slight orange flavouring. Light spicy, pepper twist mid-sip, leading to a mild bitter finish. Really liked it.
