Description
Kirkstall Brewery was inspired by the rich brewing history of Kirkstall village, which later formed part of the city of Leeds. The brewing company boasts a rich history spanning from the 12th century, where the Cistercian monks founded Kirkstall Abbey and began the area’s brewing legacy. The original Kirkstall Brewery was founded in 1871 and was in operation till 1983 when it was closed by its last owners, Whitbread. The buildings have been well preserved and are now home to students of Leeds Metropolitan University. The new Kirkstall Brewery is located on the Leeds Liverpool canal, in the shadow of the original brewery, reviving the tradition of brewing in Kirkstall and the inspiration to once again make the name famous for great beer.

Keg at BrewDog Leicester. Brownish red and very cloudy with a pink spotty head and a fair bit of lacing. Fresh raspberry aroma, sharp and intense. Lovely but fairly one-dimensional. It has a nice sweet-tart interplay in the taste. There’s an initial trashy off-note that takes it down a notch but it disappears fairly quickly. Aftertaste is resplendent with raspberry. Nice.

On keg at Brewdog Edinburgh. Appearance - deep red smoothie look. Lovely lacy head. Nose - initially too much of a confectionery note. Yeasty earthy back note. Taste - definitely not confectionery bit rather packed with real fruit. Palate - light to medium bodied with a creamy yet tangy texture and a long dry tangy finish. Overall - enjoyable.
