Cask-conditioned at the Commercial Rooms (JDW), Bristol 15/10/22. Near black in colour with a moderately-sized. Aroma of plain chocolate, creamy malts and a hint of roastiness. Flavour had a lot more chocolate without excessive sweetness, smooth malts, and a hint of coffee before a gently toasty finish. Enjoyable.

Half-pint, cask, after breakfast at Briar Rose (JDW). Ruby-black in the glass, low fawn-coloured head, fair lacing. Attractive smell of roasted chocolate malts and oats. Rich malt-driven taste of chocolate, cocoa, and oatmeal. Smoothly roasted ending with moderately sweetness. Fine depth. Good drinking. (Birmingham 16.10.2022).

[Cask at the Back of Beyond (JDW), Reading.] A dark ruby red pour with a tight coffee coloured head; sweet oaty aroma; velvety in the mouth with a luxurious chocolate taste; then a long dry finish with a sustained bitterness from the well roasted grains and lingering porridge oats. Excellent.

Cask (gravity) at Babington Arms, Derby. Pours almost black with minimal cream head. Aroma has hints of coffee and biscuits, but you have to search for them. Oats are the immediate flavour in the mouth, followed by milky coffee and roasted malts. Some hints of chocolate as well. This is very drinkable !

Cask @ White Hart, Todmorden. Wetherspoon 2022 Autumn Beer Festival Ale. Very dark red with a frothy off-white head. There's decent roasted malts in both aroma and taste, albeit never getting that stated. Its texture is easy drinking.

Bottle from Co-op outside Southampton Central. Aroma is quite lagery - malts and yeast. Cleat gold. Frothy white head. Light-medium bitter. Malts. Underlying tang. Light bodied. Thin Fizzy carbonation. Long dry finish. Sessionable but boring.
